The YWCA Mohawk Valley, thanks the employees at Workforce Development Board for our generosity to the YWCA's clients and their children through the 2017 Holiday Adopt-A-Family program. Because of our support, they were able to provide gifts to all of their clients and their children residing in the their shelters this holiday season.

The BEAM program is proud to announce that their Chenango County Outreach Coordinator, Heather Schaap, Earned her Master's Degree in Science in Human Services, with a concentration in Organizational and Social Services from Kaplan University. She graduated in December with honors, after carrying a 4.0 GPA throughout.

This is an exciting year for workforce development in New York. After many years of the NYATEP's collective advocacy, the Governor has proposed $175 million investment for workforce development in this budget year.

HMO Workforce Investment Board Awarded Grant
   

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) has awarded the Workforce Investment Board of Herkimer, Madison and Oneida Counties the 2017 Green Jobs for Youth in EJ Areas Grant in the amount of $100,000. The grant was awarded for the project titled: New American Green Careers Training Program as the fiscal sponsor for the Midtown Utica Community Center.

The funded green jobs training programs will continue and grow the efforts to expand actions to grow the green economy and protect public health and the environment in environmental justice communities. We are honored to have received this grant.

MVCC is Offering FREE Environmental Remediation Training for Veterans

Mohawk Valley Community College, through a grant from the Dominion Foundation, is offering FREE environmental remediation training for veterans (must show proof of veteran status and be considered low-income).

These classes, which included Asbestos Worker, OSHA, and Lead Worker, are designed to provide critical certifications and training to improve employability.

Class starts on February 12, 2018

The Arc, Oneida/Lewis County Chapter is conducting 2 recruitments for Direct Support Specialists in addition to their other openings.  

Representatives from The Arc will be at the Rome Working Solutions, 300 W. Dominick St. on Wednesday, January 24th from 10-12pm.  

They will also be at the Utica Working Solutions, 2nd floor 207 Genesee St. Utica  on Thursday, January 25th from 10-12pm.

Financial Coaching for Veterans Workshops

There is another veteran's financial workshop happening on Tuesday, January 23rd. January's subject is "Protecting Consumer Rights". This workshop helps make you a more informed consumer by providing information about your rights, things to be on the lookout for (red flags), steps to take to protect your identity and what to do if your identity is stolen.
 
As always the workshop will be interactive and will allow for the exchange of ideas. This announcement is for the workshop that will be held at the VFW in Lowville, NY.

We Care Transportation Recruitment

We Care Transportation is expanding in the Utica area. They will be recruiting forseveral openings on Tuesday, January 30th from 10AM to 1PM at the Utica Working Solutions Office, 207 Genesee St. Utica, 2nd Floor.

Mohawk Valley Community College's Advanced Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) is helping manufacturers in the six-county Mohawk Valley Region to develop and grow, providing comprehensive programs and services to manufacturers in various industries. AIM is designed to assist small- to medium-sized manufacturing companies in making their individual systems run more efficiently, increase profits, develop new innovative products, and create and retain jobs.
