New Choices mourns beloved director
The College is sad to share the news of the sudden passing last month of Sandy Gera, Director of the New Choices Career Development Program.

Sandy led New Choices for more than 15 years, helping not only with this important community workforce program but also leading several other projects including the Women in STEM student organization. For the last several years, Sandy took her passion for career training and social services on the road to the local women’s prison population, helping them re-enter society with new professional skills and training. The New Choices program will host a public service for Sandy later this fall, with details to be made available in October.

For more information, please contact Lisa Brodeur, Client Tracking Coordinator for New Choices at [email protected] You can also read Sandy’s online obituary online here: www.longwoodfuneralhome.com/notices/Sandra-Gera

CONNECTIONS
Delaware County Community College 'was the key'
This month’s alumni profile came by way of a “humblebrag” of sorts. Cheryl Mattern ‘91 was so proud of her husband, Bill ‘91, who was recently promoted at his job with Sharon Bank, that she contacted the Alumni Association to share their story. The Matterns both graduated from the College in 1991 before continuing their educational path together while building a family and successful careers.
CAREERS
Visting Angels Living Assistance Services
Each month, the Alumni Association will feature a local company that is looking to hire our graduates in a variety of professional roles.

Visiting Angels of Chadds Ford, PA has been in business for the past five years. They are the leader in both the Media and Chadds Ford areas for providing non-medical senior care. They continue to grow their business by providing quality services and developing new relationships, including with students and graduates of Delaware County Community College.

Visiting Angels hires compassionate caregivers to provide services for clients in their own home or assisted living facility. Typical responsibilities of a caregiver include providing assistance with activities of daily living, meal preparation, transportation and companionship. Working as a caregiver is a great way to contribute to another person’s life, gain experience and create an avenue for a career in the healthcare field.
