National HOSA, Inc. Board Report
Serving as the Eastern Region State Advisor on the National HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors, I recently attended my first meeting held in Dallas. The Board approved many new initiatives that I believe will add value to the HOSA experience for students, teachers, and state associations.

"The HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors approved the most expansive and forward-thinking plan of work in the 43-year history of HOSA-Future Health Professionals," explained Executive Director, Jim Koeninger. Among the motions approved included:

  • HOSA TALL--Online training for new advisors at the local level. The two-year local advisor development program will be launched in 2019-2020. A Learning Management System (LMS) will be used to deliver this initial online training for the future.

  • Standards of Excellence for HOSA Chartered Associations--approved the annual process for Chartered Associations to submit standards documentation to the review task force that will award "Gold, Silver, or Bronze Standards of Excellence" plaques at the State Advisors Management (SAM) Conference in September. Gold Standards of Excellence Associations will receive additional recognition on the HOSA website. HOSA is evolving into a standards-based organization.

  • Senior Director for Advancement -- Kimberly Spivey, was employed to lead an advancement program for HOSA-Future Health Professionals seeking funding from private foundations and corporations to support projects and events. Year one goal is $500,000.

  • Capital Campaign and Building Fund -- approved to be formed and directed to seek funding from the Alumni Division. The purpose of the Building Fund is to purchase or build a headquarters for the International Center for HOSA-Future Health Professionals. The intent is to schedule the opening of the new headquarters in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary during the 2026 International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas.

More details and several other enhancements for this school year and for 2019-2020 will be announced shortly.

Competitive Event Helpers Needed
We are all familiar with the phrase, "All Hands on Deck!" In order to conduct quality experiences we need every advisor to help with conducting our regional and state competitive events. Your expertise and assistance along with that of industry representatives will allow us to provide those positive experiences.

Please download the below form, complete it and email the form to Jim Scott. We will then copy the form and give the appropriate forms to the respective Region Captain for potential use as they plan and prepare for the regional competition. No teacher will be asked or allowed to judge their own student(s). If you know of others who would be willing to assist, please copy the form and email it to Ohiohosa.14@gmail.com.
