Association Update
From Hans Craen, AFRA Executive Director
Dear AFRA Members,

Happy new year! As we kick off 2019, I wanted to highlight AFRA's committees and the work they do. Each of the four committees have established their goals for 2019, and the committees are always open to welcoming further participation from members.

BMP Committee
This committee works to maintain the most up-to-date information on best practices for aircraft end-of-life and is
responsible for reviewing and further advancing the AFRA Best Management Practice (BMP) Guide and Accreditation
program for disassembly, contracted disassembly, demolition, recycling, and contracted recycling of aircraft.

Committee Goals
  • Roll out BMP 4.0 Accreditation Program
  • Update poster of hazardous materials
  • Include a Standard Removal Tag in the BMP Guidelines
  • Increase accreditation presence in Asia
  • 5 new accredited members
  • Continued engagement with IATA and ICAO
To become involved with the BMP Committee or to learn more, please contact David Bernstein.

Communications Committee
This committee works on various projects, including fine-tuning our membership recruitment messaging, contributing
photos and content to industry magazine articles, and coordinating with Staff on event programming selections. This group also works to increase awareness of AFRA's mission through various communication channels and is instrumental in delivering relevant and timely content for the Annual Conference.

Committee Goals
  • Maintain and grow AFRA presence in the aviation industry
  • Increase the level of participation in speaking opportunities at relevant events
  • Grow our network by contributing to article outlets and participating in media opportunities
  • Refine and further develop specific membership benefits
  • Increase attendance and participation at Annual Conference
  • Continue to develop relevant speakers for Annual Conference panels
To become involved with the Communications Committee or to learn more, please contact Sam Nysetvold.

Government Affairs Committee
This committee works to better address the policy developments and regulatory issues that impact the aircraft recycling and dismantling industry and to proactively promote the AFRA Best Management Practices guide.

Committee Goals
  • Execute Public Affairs Strategy
  • Amend existing and promotional materials & create new ones if needed
  • Identify key contacts in European institutions
  • Identify stakeholders with common views in order to build alliances

R&D Committee
The AFRA Research & Development Committee aims to position AFRA as the go-to resource for industry R&D
information by coordinating its efforts alongside a network of research partners and member research activities as
appropriate. In addition to utilizing research network partner organizations' and members' expertise to compile
resources for AFRA members' reference, the Committee will work with these partners and members to advance AFRA's
goals: achieving greater component recovery and material recycling for the industry, promoting innovation in recovery
and recycling technology, and supporting research that encourages commercially viable recycling and encourages
design for disassembly and recyclability for new aircraft.

Committee Goals
  • 5 additional research organizations to join the AFRA research network
  • 20 additional articles added to the AFRA library
  • 1 research project started by the Committee
  • Creation of an AFRA metric to measure industry performance
  • Engage the Research Network participants - quarterly e-newsletters
  • Continued engagement with allied industry organizations (Remanufacturing Industries Council (RIC), REMADE Institute, etc.).
  • Maintain 80% voting member committee meeting participation through valued meeting schedules, agendas, and member assignments and responsibilities
To become involved with the R&D Committee or to learn more, please contact Laura Dwulet.

I encourage you to consider joining a committee for the opportunity to increase your involvement with AFRA and voice your company's position on industry issues.

Best regards,

Hans Craen
AFRA Executive Director
