This vanity has an old world character that is inspired by dressers of the 17th century. It has 4 to 7 inch legs to help to support it. It functions well in large classic homes with its elegant lines. But it can work even in a tight space to create character. I like to add a towel bar to each side for a wash-stand look.

We love using this style in tight spaces to give the illusion of space. The floor travels underneath. The illusion is further enhanced by adding a night-light on a motion sensor underneath.

This style is similar to the furniture style vanity, only it’s an actual antique. This can be a British, French or American historical piece, converted to a vanity or copied. The copy ensures that the piece can easily function with plumbing and provide storage. Authentic pieces can be found in places such as Scott Landon Antiques.

This vanity has its weight supported by the floor, has a 4” - 6” toe kick space and has ample storage. A standard custom vanity can be easily reduced, or increased in depth or height, to suit. Standard heights vary but 33”- 34” is the most popular in Canada. 36” for the USA.

Here are some tips:
1)Wall-mount the vanity 9” to 16” above for slippers, a child’s step or a bathroom scale.
2)Ensure that the door on the cabinet closest to the toilet opens away from the toilet so you can get into it.
3) Add a connected shelf over the toilet to increase countertop space.
4)You can put a drawer under a sink as long as you correctly notch it for pipes and the depth of the sink. Drawers add tons of easy access storage.
And as a final note, vanity drawers should always be easily removable to clean. Use Blum hardware.

Storage idea: A large cabinet should not be a wasted space. Add a shelf and a bottom pull out drawer to any cabinet.
With some thought, improvements can be made with bins, and shelves to tidy up and live better.
