How do we get such great speakers?
They are recommended!
Who recommends them?
You do!
We need your recommendations (and soon) as we starting planning for the 2019 Conference in Chicago.

NPR Launches Student Podcast Challenge
Be a part of the first-ever
NPR Student Podcast Challenge. Students around the country are invited to create a podcast, then — with the help of a teacher — compete for a chance to win a grand prize and have their work appear on NPR.
Each podcast should be between three and 12 minutes long. The contest is for teachers with students between 5th and 12th grade, and teachers can submit their students' podcasts
here.
Visit the
submission guide to find suggested prompts, guidelines for submissions, and a list of questions you might have. But before you do anything, it's important to read the
official rules.
Submissions will be accepted through March 31, 2019. Winners will be announced in April. The winning podcast submissions will be featured in segments on
Morning Edition or
All Things Considered.

BioQUEST Summer Workshop:
Evolution of Data in the Classroom
BioQUEST's
2019 workshop,
Evolution of Data in the Classroom: From Data to Data Science
, will be held July 14-19, 2019 at College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA.
This year, workshop participants will be exploring how "data acumen" fits into biology. Data acumen is defined as "the ability to make good judgments, use tools responsibly and effectively, and ultimately make good decisions using data." This idea fits nicely with several aspects of biology education including engaging with real-world problems and developing quantitative skills. This workshop is an opportunity to meet like-minded faculty, share ideas and resources, learn about effective pedagogical approaches, and catch up on some cutting edge science.
The summer workshop is appropriate for 2- and 4-year faculty teaching all levels of undergraduate biology, quantitative biology, and life science-oriented mathematics, and future faculty. Those teaching AP or advanced biology are also welcome. Teams from a single institution or partner institutions are encouraged to apply, especially interdisciplinary teams and teams combining part-time and full-time faculty.
