EPEL Partners,
Happy New Year! January is an exciting time of reflection, rebooting and getting fired up for the year. Before the holidays I was privileged to hear Mayor Kaptain speak about the accomplishments and goals of Elgin. It is an exciting time to live in this community and raise children. Elgin has one of the lowest crime rates for a city of this size, low unemployment rates and new businesses bringing lots of new jobs to the community. New companies in the area=more families with children. We want Elgin to be the premier place to raise a child. We are a community where Early Learning Matters! Consider joining us to become an Early Learning Community Partner.
Growing up it seemed like I played outside all day long. I have vivid memories of building a miniature golf course in the woods with rakes, old logs and some golf balls we found. I also remember standing on my banana bicycle seat, no helmet of course, screaming at the top of my lungs and riding down the street. We played, laughed, and didn't have many worries. Families now are faced with so many more obstacles so the hello we extend, the smile we give or the help we offer might be the best part of a person's day. Many of us are in helping roles, so we have to remember to walk worthy of our calling. The services you provide, the warm touch you offer and the extra mile you go to serve families and children is noticed, and appreciated! You are one of the things that makes Elgin so special.
Maya Angelou said, "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." The work that you do daily by providing services to make lives more comfortable, helping others, and being community minded are all ways to be a rainbow in a families cloud.
