A Message from Pastor Austin
Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
    but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

 What a person desires is unfailing love;
    better to be poor than a liar.

 The fear of the Lord leads to life;
    then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Proverbs 19:21-23
I have made lots of plans in my life. Think about the plans you made long ago. You, like me, had it all figured out, but then life happened. We all have different stories, different roads traveled, and different road bumps along the way.

Maybe your Prince Charming wasn't so charming when he left you dancing alone at the ball. What a toad. Perhaps the princess has yet to knock on your door and you wonder if you will be always alone. Perhaps your glamorous career took a back seat next to drooling babies and dirty diapers. Perhaps your go-get-em workouts had to slow down after the injury, and your knee no longer allows you to do the things you love to. Oh, the plans we make in our hearts are many, aren't they?

In his letter to the Philippians the Apostle Paul declares

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:12-13

We all have plans that haven't been fulfilled, or plans that we never even comprehended could possibly happen. Paul's secret to a content heart isn't in a bank statement, an ocean view penthouse, or the perfect relationship. Paul's secret isn't a secret at all. It is Jesus hanging on a cross. It is Jesus who takes all of our cares, our worries, our anxieties, and our sins and nails them to the cross. Sometimes we don't think that is enough.

Thursday afternoon I received an emergency text stating that there was a fire in Wolcott, which is literally a couple intersections boasting a few buildings along the Eagle river. This little village is somewhat close to my daughter's school. An hour after the text, I was driving to pick her up and sure enough I could see the blaze of smoldering trees above a rocky cliff.

On the way home, we pulled over to watch the firefighters do their work and did they ever!

I filmed this incredible pilot who navigated unbelievable terrain as he dipped his massive helicopter into the Eagle River.
What if yesterday I ran down the hill and shouted to the pilot, "Excuse me, excuse me sir, I think I could fly this chopper better than you!" He might reply something like..

"Do you have any experience? Do you even know what the plan is to quickly and effectively extinguish the blaze? Did you see the power lines overhead, the raging river down below, the rocky cliff on one side, and the two highways between them? Do you know how to control a helicopter at all, let alone a firefighting copter? Are you aware of common and deadly mistakes including reducing the rotor rpm building deadly autorotation, too little or too much flare, failing to maintain the rotor rpm with the proper range, or improper use of anti-torque on entry? Why don't you let me do my job?"

We are not always content letting God do what he does best- being God. We forget that he always listens to us, but does not always answer us or do things the way we think we should do them. We think we know better.

But when we submit to the Lord, and let God be God, we discover contentment.

Help us, oh Lord our God, to be content in all circumstances. Remind us we can do all things through your Son Jesus who strengthens us.

PS. When I drove up valley today the fire was out. I guess the pilot knew what he was doing after all.

Ezekiel lived in a time of international upheaval and the judgement of God was upon Israel. Sound familiar to today's events? God used Ezekiel not only to warn Israel, but to give them hope that God has not totally abandoned them. Israel still has a future to look forward to and so do we. Those of you who took Revelation will see so many parallels and phrases from Ezekiel that echo back to Revelation. I am excited to start this series with all of you.

I am hoping that all of you want to join me on Zoom for the fall Precept class on Ezekiel Part 1. 

Ezekiel is a two part study, Part One is 10 weeks long and will start on September 9th (Thursday Class is the 10th) and go through November 18 (19th for Thursday class). This includes a zero week to catch up with everyone. 

Part Two is 7 weeks long and we will start it in January. 

Please email me if you are taking the class and if you live in the Vail Valley I will order your book for you if you want me to, it saves a little on postage, but you will have to come by to see me to pick it up. :-)

If you live outside the Vail Valley, you will have to order your own book from Precept.org. Make sure you order the Precept Upon Precept workbook in your choice of NASB or ESV. You can order both Part 1 and Part 2 if you plan to join us in January also. You will save on postage that way. I urge you to order soon, as Precept gets busy in August for all the fall classes.

  • Teachers, students, school administrators, and parents as they resume classes. Give comfort and peace through the changes and the challenges.

  • All those evacuated from their homes, including Yvonne Babbitt, due to the fire in Glenwood Canyon. Pray for firefighters, forestry workers, and all those battling the blaze in Glenwood canyon.

  • Nancy Kraft and her family as, Louie, her brother-in-law and Pastor Austin's uncle died this past week. Nancy is traveling to Minnesota to be with family.

  • Whitney, Jordan's sister, and her husband Jake as they mourn the loss of their precious daughter, Grace, who was stillborn. Pray for comfort and peace beyond all understanding.

  • Kindra's brother, Todd, who is recovering from a serious car accident. Pray for healing and quick recovery.

  • Missy Kraft who is recovering from a hysterectomy this week.

  • All those who have been laid off from work, that they may have provision and peace.

  • Jack Swedlund and his wife Tanya, as Jack is in hospice care at home suffering from cancer.

  • Strength, comfort and support for Carol who is home, and her daughter Pam.

  • Bill and Virginia Hurd who are at Castle Peak as permanent residents and unable to see family and friends in person. And for all the residents and staff of Castle Peak.

  • Complete healing for Sal Marchetti as he continues to recover, and strength for the entire family who is faithfully taking care of him.

  • Everyone in our congregation and their families who are dealing with the pains and trials of cancer, including Connie Kerr; Jack; Pastor Sid; Keith; Chris; Sharon Hlavinka; Brad Bluhm; Rance Ketterling; little Sal Marchetti; Amanda; Jonette; Carol; Jerry; and Suzanne.
