Pleasantdale School District Friday Update
March 16, 2018
District News
Snow make up day April 23, 2 018.
Students and staff will have a regular school day.
And Experience Unlike N o Other!

Last week, Pleasantdale Elementary opened its doors to our families for the annual Experience Elementary. However, unlike previous years, this year the experience for families was much more interactive. In conjunction with our school theme, We're Going Places, and Dr. Seuss Week, the school was transformed into an interactive learning playground. Every staff member was engaged in the transformation.
Summer Academy - One more week of Early Bird Pricing!!

Did you know if you register by March 23, you can save $25 per class with our Summer Academy Early Bird Pricing?!

We are excited to announce that the Pleasant Dale Park District has coordinated with the school district to provide an opportunity for families to send their children to Park District Summer Camp for a reduced rate. Sign your child up for Summer Academy classes at Pleasantdale Middle School in the morning, and pair this with the Pleasant Dale Park District summer camp in the afternoon for a full day of summer fun!  *This opportunity is available only for families with children attending all 3 sessions of Summer Academy classes.*  The reduced camp rate would be $125 for each week of Summer Camp for families involved in both the Park District Summer Camp and the Summer Academy Classes. For additional information and questions, please contact the Pleasant Dale Park District Recreation Supervisor Eric Sloyan (630) 662-6220.

Our Summer Academy will be held at Pleasantdale Middle School from June 11 - July 6 y(no class July 4), with classes offered from 8:50 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.on Monday - Friday of each week.  "Around the World Cooking", "Gardening 101", and "Adventures with the Polish Language" are only a few of the exciting learning opportunities we are offering our students this summer!
Take a look at our program book and register your child online today!
Please contact Meg Knapik with any questions at [email protected] or (708) 246-7373.

Change in School Lunch Account System for Next Year!
In an effort to streamline payments, the District will not be using MySchool Account.com  next school year 2018-2019. Instead payments will be made through RevTrak via Skyward Family Access. With the change in systems, all funds left in your account will NOT be rolled over  but any amount greater than $1.00 will be refunded to you by the end of June or if you so choose, you may donate your surplus funds to the District's Angel Fund - a fund that supports our most needy families. All families will receive an email at the end of May asking if you would like a refund or to donate your funds. In the meantime, if you will be adding funds to your student's account between now and the end of the school year, please calculate an estimate of how much your child will spend so that you are not adding too much to your child's account.

Middle School News
De ar Pleasantdale Families,

We are very excited to let you know that we are hosting a presentation designed specifically for parents of children in 3rd through 8th grades entitled, "It's More Than 'Just Say No': Raising Resilient and Drug-Free Kids" on  Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Pleasantdale Middle School in the all-purpose room/cafeteria.
This informative session, presented by Rosecrance Health Network, guides parents in how to teach resiliency skills to your 3rd through 8th grader, better equipping your children to make good decisions now and later in life.  We firmly believe that parents are the first line of defense in preventing their children from experimenting and using drugs. It is never too early to lay the foundation for a drug-free lifestyle.  Registration is recommended and can be accessed at  http://www.rosecrance.org/events/?ee=884.
Please click  here to watch a one-minute video about the event.
For questions about this event, please contact Annette Bowden at  [email protected] or  815.387.5607 or me.
If you can't make the event on this date, please consider going to the  April 25, 2018 offering at Oak Park School District 97 by visiting  http://www.rosecrance.org/drugfreekids/.
We really hope to see you on Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at the middle school!

PTO News
Write Stuff

For the final Write Stuff, students were asked to write about time travel.  This topic must have sparked the imagination because we received more submissions than for any other Write Stuff!  Students wrote about traveling back in time to run with dinosaurs, witness the explosion of Mt. Vesuvius, see what their parents were like as children, and even to meet Elvis.  Students who wrote about traveling to the future wanted to see themselves as adults, travel freely through space, and discover all the sports winning teams for the next decade.  A few select entries have been shared with Ms. Tomei, but we want to recognize ALL the students who submitted writings - they really did a phenomenal job.  Everyone who turned in a Write Stuff entry is listed by grade level on the PTO website.  Check it out at  https://www.pleasantdalepto.com/
