How Can You Help Your Child Finish Well (and Avoid Long Lines Next Fall)?

As the year is winding down, there are a few very important tasks ahead that will make a difference for your child.  1. Statewide Testing--All third, fourth and fifth grade kids will take the English Language Arts portion of SC READY this Tuesday and Wednesday.  They will take the Math portion of SC READY next Tuesday, May 15.  Fourth graders will take SC PASS in Science and Fifth graders will take SC PASS in Social Studies next Wednesday, May 16.  Third graders will take their MAP Reading test next Thursday, May 17.  In order to help your child do their best on these tests, please remember to do the following:
a. Get a good night's rest the night before the test.
b. Eat breakfast the morning of the test.
c. Be sure your child is on time for school.  He/she should be in their seat by 7:45.
d. Reschedule any appointments that you might have for those days.
e. Encourage your child to simply do their best and check their work before turning in his/her test.
2. Complete your child's online registration for the 18-19 school year by June 15.  If you do the following, you will not have to wait in long lines to complete this in the fall.  For all current RDES students, here's all you need to do:
a. Click on Returning Student Registration and it will take you to our website with instructions for how to fill out the online form.  You will need your child's Canvas Password and we are sending those home to you this week.  Your 3rd, 4th and 5th grader should be able to give you their passwords.
b. Bring in to the office a current proof of residence (from the last 90 days.)  It can be an electric bill, gas bill, or rental or mortgage agreement.  The top portion should have the parent or guardian's name and the service address.  Both of these (a. and b.) should be done by June 15.  The online registration portal closes on June 16.
We appreciate all the big and small things you do to help your child be successful.  They all make a difference.

Patrick Maness, Principal

Making a Difference

We are so proud of all of our girls and coaches who participated in Girls on the Run this spring.  (Mrs. Schultz and Veronica are at left.)  All of them ran in the GOTR race on Saturday and all crossed the finish line.  Thanks for your support of this program and our girls.  We could not do this without our volunteer coaches.

Making a Difference --We want to hear how your kids make a difference.  Please send to  Mr. Maness' Email  your story and picture of how your child has done this. We appreciate all the big and small ways that you make a difference in our school and community.

Box Tops for Education--  Please trim your Box Tops along the dotted lines and send them to your child's teacher, or place them in the box in the school office.  Remember, every Box Top we submit is worth 10 cents. Each year, we raise over $1,000 for our school.  You can click on Box Tops for more information.

Notes and Reminders
Spring Testing-- Please click on the  Spring 2018 Testing Schedule  to see when your child is taking which test this spring.  Please try to reschedule appointments if possible if your child has one on a testing day.  Students do much better when they take tests with their teacher under normal circumstances.  Also, please be sure they are on time, eat breakfast and get a good night's sleep.  We want your child to do their very best to demonstrate all they have learned.

Field Day--Field Day will be Friday morning, May 25.  If you'd like to volunteer, you can click on Field Day Volunteer Signups.  Please be sure you have also have an updated District Volunteer screening.  If you haven't done one in the last two years, you can click on District Volunteer Application on the left sidebar.

Fifth Grade Graduation --Fifth Grade Graduation will be Wednesday, May 30 at 8:30 AM at Westminster Presbyterian.  Fifth graders should be there by 7:50.  We wanted to be sure you had those dates so you can plan.

District World Language Website --If you would like more information about our World Language programs in the district, click on the  World Language Website .  Under the Immersion tab, you can see resources and updates from our Immersion Parent Advisory Committee.  It also has information about the Middle School Immersion Program and the plans for the new Immersion Elementary School.

District App --The Rock Hill School District recently launched a new app for your cellphone. You can go in it and choose the schools you want to follow. All of our RDES Twitter and Facebook feeds go directly to it as well. It is a great resource for keeping current on school and district information.
