The School of Journalism has won a gold award in the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education's District VI Awards program for last year's William Allen White 150 Birthyear Celebration.

Bengtson Faculty Mentoring Award
|
Nominations are now being accepted for the Bengtson Faculty Mentoring Award. Tim Bengtson taught and mentored more than 12,000 students during his more than 30 years at KU. During his tenure, Bengtson established a legacy as an outstanding advisor to his students and a trusted friend to his colleagues in the School of Journalism. This award honors and recognizes School of Journalism faculty members who demonstrate Bengtson's dedication to student mentorship. Students or faculty members may nominate an instructor. Deadline for nominations is Feb. 14.

s work titled “Cross-Cultural Differences between Americans and Koreans in Perception of Message Assertiveness and Product Discounts” has been accepted for presentation in 2019 American Marketing Association in Austin, Texas, on Feb 22-25. Another work titled “How Price Discounts Increase Compliance with Assertive Messages for Prosocial Behavior,” has been accepted for presentation at the 2019 American Academy of Advertising in Dallas, Texas, on March 28-31.

has been accepted for presentation at the 43rd annual Marketing Educators’ Association Conference, which will be April 4-6, 2019, in Phoenix. “Immersive and Experiential Learning in Capstone Courses” will report on results of the recent condensed intersession capstone course piloted in the Integrated Marketing Communications program.
Kerry Benson
, strategic communication chair, led a workshop on how best to present strategy concepts for brand managers at the American Academy of Family Physicians on Dec. 10. The AAFP promotes the science and art of family medicine. It is one of the largest medical organizations in the United States, with more than 100,000 members.
Benson
also participated in a leadership development pilot program with 16 other KU department chairs and directors on Jan. 17-18. The KU offices of Faculty Development, Ombuds, Human Resource Management, Diversity and Equity, General Counsel and IOA are collaborating to work with chairs and directors to better campus culture and foster the retention of faculty and staff.

won a scholarship from ACES: The Society for Editing, which awards scholarships to students committed to a career in editing. Scholarship winners receive $1,500 and aid to attend the ACES national conference. Scholarships are supported by
donations to the ACES Education Fund

B.J. Rains
, 2009 J-School graduate, was named Idaho Sportswriter of the Year for the second year in a row.
Rains has been the Boise State beat writer for the Idaho Press since 2013 and is the only Idaho Press reporter to win the award since it began in 1959.
