Incorporated in June 1981, the Florida Society of Clinical Hypnosis (FSCH) is completing its 36th year of "providing and encouraging education programs to ethically further the knowledge and understanding of clinical hypnosis."
Comprised of members from all over Florida, FSCH provides two Intermediate/Advanced Clinical Hypnosis workshops per year, and endeavors to provide a minimum of one Basic Workshop each year. In May of this year, we were delighted to have our own President-Elect and ASCH Approved Consultant, Louis Damis, Ph.D., ABPP, present "Hypnosis for Maladaptive Coping, and Anxiety" in Naples, Florida. The workshop registrants enjoyed a poolside wine and cheese reception on Friday evening, followed by a two-day intensive learning experience with Dr. Damis on Saturday and Sunday.
FSCH originally scheduled its 20 hour Basic Workshop to be held September 15-17 in St. Petersburg, however, Hurricane Irma stormed the whole state the weekend before and left a lot of debris in the aftermath. Accordingly, the workshop was rescheduled for October 27-29, just one weekend prior to our Fall Workshop in Cocoa Beach. The Basic was very well received and FSCH now has eight new members from those who registered! Two of those in attendance even registered for the Intermediate/Advanced workshop the following weekend!
Our Fall Workshop was held November 3-5 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Cocoa Beach. A bonus three hour workshop, "Core Healing Techniques Supportive of Healthy Attraction," was presented by FSCH member Joyce Glasser, Ph.D. on Friday afternoon, followed by our wine and cheese reception where many long-term members reunited and socialized. We were so pleased to have G. Lane Wagaman, Ed.D., ASCH Consultant and Chair of the ASCH Education Committee, present "Clinical Hypnosis in Integrated Health Care: Eliciting Hypnosis and Being Hypnotic" on Saturday and Sunday. Dr. Wagaman referred to FSCH members afterward as a "welcoming, accomplished, and committed group of professional colleagues."
Sadly, FSCH lost three of its beloved members during 2017. On May 7, Fred Williams, LCSW, a FSCH Life Member and former Board Member, succumbed to a valiant battle with cancer. ASCH member Christine Clark, LCSW, passed away October 17, and John "Jack" Lee, LMHC died on November 2 after a long illness. Each of these members served as dedicated professionals who took every opportunity to learn and grow as counselors.
FSCH will be electing new officers in March. Proudly serving for the past two years are President, Marty Nathan, LMHC, LCPC, an ASCH Approved Consultant; President-Elect, Louis Damis, Ph.D., ABPP; Vice President, Chip Schaaff, LMHC; Secretary, Elizabeth Bonet, Ph.D., and Treasurer, Diane Lindner, LCSW.
FSCH continues to grow in its professionalism, conviviality, and fellowship among colleagues!
