Disability-Based Medical Assistance
Get the Facts!
Often families in Minnesota who have children and youth with disabilities and/or special health care needs fall through the cracks trying to get on the Medicaid/Medical Assistance (MA) program.

Sometimes parents are told: Your income is too high to get Medicaid/MA so your child doesn't qualify.

  • The truth is your child may qualify based on their disability or special health care need through the TEFRA Waiver program.

  • TEFRA is a program for children who have a qualifying disability to access the Medicaid/MA program even if their family makes too much money.

Sometimes parents are told: The only way to qualify for disability-based Medicaid/MA is to get a disability determination through the Social Security Administration.

All the staff and volunteers with Family Voices of Minnesota's Connected Parent to Parent peer support program are parents of children with disabilities or special health care needs.

We know how complicated these systems are and can help you learn how to apply for Medicaid/Medical Assistance for you child. We would love to talk with you!
