Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist

September 21, 2020

Reflection:
Matthew's call to discipleship by Jesus would have been shocking to all, as he worked for the occupying Roman forces, collecting taxes. A Jew himself, he was considered a traitor by other Jews because of the work he did. Jesus recognized in Matthew abilities and qualities that would give him a new purpose and fulfillment.  For us, we can use Matthew's example: although we are not perfect, our gifts can be used to serve Christ.
