A Husky Saturday by the Numbers

At the Southern Section CIF basketball finals yesterday, I counted . . .
  • 164 enthusiastic fans
  • 72 fast-moving Husky paws on the court (including 1 newly-healed senior paw)
  • 20 cheerleader hands clapping and waving
  • 6 hardworking, talented, passionate coaches
  • 1 proud Athletic Director
  • 52 points (to 32) . . . the boys' winning score
  • 78 points (to 61) . . . the girls' winning score
  • 3.72: the average GPA of the students involved (yes I did the math)
So, huge kudos to everyone, as both girls' and boys' teams retain their CIF titles (both in higher divisions than last year).

Go Huskies!

A Message From The Advocates for Diversity Club

The Advocates for Diversity (AFD) club is starting an initiative to help students learn how to be good advocates/allies on campus with the "I Am Message." The purpose is to give students a voice (anonymously) in situations where they might feel offended and uncomfortable confronting when they see or hear something derogatory against a specific group (race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, class, ability, etc) whether it was towards you, a friend, or just someone around you. We will read these for you during morning meeting to help create a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Click the button below for the anonymous form. It is a way of having your voice heard in hopes to end inappropriate and derogatory comments and/or activity on campus. Bookmark this form in case you ever want to fill one out. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Mindfulness and
MBSR-T

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR-T) is a skills based approach for teens to manage stress in their daily lives. Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment with an increased awareness and a focused quality. Examples of experiential learning include: Body Scan, Walking and Sitting Meditations, Mindful Stopping, and Mindful Homework/Test-taking. It will include mindfulness homework such as daily practice, parent engagement, and a 3-ring binder with materials for the student.

RHP/REN has the opportunity to host an Introductory MBSR-T program for 3 weeks prior to Spring Break on March 6, 13, and 20, on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30. Our RHP parent  Christina  Morse is a Mindfulness Facilitator and trained in teaching MBSR-T. Mindfulness practice fosters concentration, understanding, learning and patience. When we are more mindful, our actions more likely reflect our values and wisdom than a reflex emotional reaction. To put it simply, it's exercise for the brain! If you might like more information about the workshops please contact  Christina  Morse. To register for the workshops, please go to  www.MindfulSouthBay.com

Urinetown: The Musical
March 8 - 10 | 7 p.m.
Warner Grand Theater

Rolling Hills Prep and Renaissance Schools are presenting the first all school musical in five years. The combined group of 6-12th grade students will perform the musical satire Urinetown on the stage of the historic Warner Grand Theatre on March 8, 9, and 10. Tickets are $17.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door. Special front and center seats are also available.

Urinetown pokes fun while paying homage to the history of the American musical. In the style of Brecht, Rogers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim and with references to West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, and Les Miserables. It features a world where water is so scarce that bathroom trips have to be regulated by the government. Urinetown has been a hit with schools, theatre companies, and yes, Broadway, with its crazy premise and its relevant moral message.

Congratulation to our sailing team on their amazing 2nd place finish at the Golden Bear Regatta last weekend.  Our team (Cade, Drea, Lawry, and Wynslow) sailed fast to beat out 28 other teams for the trophy.  It's still possible to join this year-round team if you're interested!

Last week was a Spirit Week full of pajamas, twinning, wacky hairstyles, class colors, and superheroes.
