Mental Health Matters
At the beginning of the pandemic last March, I had two episodes of sobbing that alarmed me. They occurred as I was reading newspaper articles. They started with a few drops of tears and turned into uncontrollable sobbing. Having been trained as a clinical psychologist and having practiced as a clinician for several decades, I was confused and troubled by these. Alarmed that I might be losing my equilibrium, I made a plan to “meet” with my husband daily at a certain time of the day for an “emotions" check in. What I came to realize in time was that I was harboring a lot of unexpressed anxiety and anger about what was going on in Michigan and in America. Having a designated time to air out my concerns and anger took a huge load off of me. I had an outlet for them, and there was someone who’d validate that I wasn’t going crazy...

One of CAPA’s own board members, Nikhil Sabharwal, started a new internship this month working for the re-election campaign for Chief Justice Bridget McCormack to the Michigan supreme court. His job right now entails making calls to Michigan voters to inform them on how to vote in the non- partisan section of the ballot. A surprising amount of voters tend to gloss over their ballots after just voting straight ticket especially since judicial elections run on non- partisan platforms. It is vital to the election for local representatives that the average voter stay informed. He also helps to inform voters on important initiatives that Chief Justice McCormack is running under such as the Justice For All Taskforce and the Governor’s Task Force on Jail and Pretrial reform...
