Long Beach City College Alumni Newsletter
March 2 018
Message from the Assistant Director,
Alumni Development

Dear Alumni Community,

Happy St. Patrick's Day, and "Luck of the Viking" to you!

One theme running throughout the month of March is that of luck.  What we may think of luck today, meant something quite different to Vikings. Rather than luck being something that just happens to you, like winning the lottery or losing your savings in Vegas, - for Vikings, luck was an interior quality possessed by a person, such as a personality trait or predisposition.   Click here for an interesting research article on the Viking concept of luck.

You are always welcome back on our campuses and I encourage you to take advantage of all there is to offer here within our campus community!

Wishing you the "Luck of the Viking",

Jennifer Bourgeois

CLUB FEATURE:  The Order of TONG

The Order of TONG is the oldest Men's club at LBCC, founded in 1927, along with the College itself.  TONG continues to this day with a representation of outstanding male students.

Its statement of purpose established October 15, 1927: "The Order of TONG encourages athletics, social life, and service to Long Beach Junior College."

TONG started as a service club with only 16 members of which 60-70% were athletes.  The majority were baseball players, as the school did not have a football team that year.  To learn more, watch the video below.
