Dear Neighbors,
The City has over 350 snow removal vehicles working on main streets throughout Chicago. The National Weather Service says
the snow may ease for a bit around noon and then will continute through Sunday.
Snow plows and salt spreaders are focused on salting and clearing arterial routes and Lake Shore Drive. Some bollards have been removed from specific portions of Lake Shore Drive near Division to allow safe clearance in both directions of the Drive.
You can watch the progress of the City's snow plows at chicagoshovels.org. Plows are not normally deployed to side streets until after the snow stops. However, given the heavy snow and the dropping temperatures, we expect that snow plows will be deployed earlier into the residential streets. There will be an announcment around 11 a.m. and we will update you.
While we discourage unnecessary travel, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will be providing normal service, with trains and buses running as close to schedule as possible. Though CTA extensively prepares its trains and buses for winter weather and snow, unpredictable conditions can sometimes cause delays. Please allow extra travel time, and get up-to-date service information via the CTA web site

We encourage residents who are able to begin to shovel sidewalks because the accumulation will be heavy and wet. Remember:
The City's snow clearing ordinance requires property owners to clear a path on all sidewalks adjacent to their property, including any crosswalk ramps. Snow should not be shoveled into the right-of-way, which includes: transit stops and bus pads, parking spaces, bike lanes, bike racks, Divvy stations and any other space where snow impedes traffic of any kind. If you are on a corner, you must remove snow and ice from sidewalks on all sides of your building and from corner sidewalk ramps. This applies to residential property and business owners.
