Good Afternoon,

Our learners are getting back into the groove after their vacation and a snow day. There is quite a bit of information in this week's update and a special section on one of our internships by Finn Baldwin. For any students interested in learning more about internships, please contact our College & Career Coordinator, Deb Laliberte. There are a variety of ways you can apply your skills outside the walls of Gilford High School.

Stay warm this weekend.

Sincerely,

Anthony Sperazzo
Principal
Congratulations to the editors and contributors of Gilford High School's Lit Mag,  Obsessive Image . The American Scholastic Press Association named Obsessive Image the  Most Outstanding High School Literary-Art Magazine in the country for 2018  among small schools. This is the fourth time  Obsessive Image  has taken the top honor in the country. "Obsessive Image is an amazing publication! Not only have you mastered the basic elements of a good magazine, but you have also published excellent works from your school population. Obsessive Image is a model for those up-and-coming magazines and an inspiration for those that haven't quite aced the necessary skills. Your magazine shows the superior efforts of talented and creative editors, writers, artists, photographers, layout/graphics designers, staff members, contributors, and advisor."

Finn Baldwin's Internship

On the first day of my internship at Misiaszek Turpin in Laconia, I was greeted by Jared, one of the workers. It was great to get a run through of what they did there and what it would be like. I produced some handwritten drawings of interior designs for the tiny home that HUOT will make on my first day. They helped me figure out the best way to go about spacing rooms from each other and showed me examples that they had done. Over the next few Mondays, I kept working on this, but also started to work in Sketchup making 3D designs that we could scale. They helped me use the program. A few weeks later we went to the HUOT to see the individuals that will be designing the home. They told us what they usually do and what could be changed or done differently. I brought my notebook and took notes so that I could incorporate the ideas in my design. After that, I worked on a design that had a loft in it and one that did not. I started to make individual rooms and placement utilizing all of the space I had to work with. On another day, I went with one of the students to gather measurements on a house that they were working on so that I could see the procedure that they use when working on a house.
The internship was very productive because it let me decide whether or not I could actually see myself as an architect. It showed me what it would take to work on a real house. I learned so many skills that I never knew I had. I am happy I had the chance to work with this architecture firm. They took me in like I had been working there for a while and taught me along the way.

A special thanks to Sonya, Robert, Jared, and Claire of Misiaszek Turpin for partnering with Gilford High School.
PARENTS OF SENIORS
Scholarship Season is underway! There have been several new scholarships added to our  webpage . Please have your student check it out with you. The Red Sox Service Scholarship is due January 18. This is a fabulous opportunity for a GHS student to earn $1000, and the process is done on-line. Other new opportunities include, but are not limited to the Lakes Region Board of REALTORS, the Faith, Hope, & Love Foundation, and the John F. Mullen Memorial scholarship.

PARENTS OF GILMANTON SENIORS
There is a scholarship specifically for Gilmanton seniors that is now available, called the Stockwell Scholarship. It is administered through the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation (where your student will also need to apply) and the application can be picked up in the School Counseling office. Check it out on our website as linked above.
Anyone can earn internship credit towards graduation by participating in the Explorer program. Any questions, please see our College & Career Coordinator, Deb Laliberte.
