I'm writing to invite your school to participate in an exciting education opportunity for students
(gr 3-7)
this Spring. The project is BC-based and associated with an important global event hosted in Vancouver this year.
The Silent Skies Student Mural Project focuses on conservation and the study of endangered species through research, art and community engagement.
Participation in the program
is FREE OF CHARGE and ties in with British Columbia's "Big Ideas" curriculum. It offers students, educators, schools, parents and their respective communities, a unique opportunity for students to have their work published online and potentially exhibited in a major international event.
The project builds on an international collaborative super-mural featuring 678 endangered bird species of the world. This project brings together many leading internationally recognized artists and three major international art and environment related events in B.C this year - the
Artists for Conservation Festival (AFC Festival), the
27th International Ornithological Congress (IOCongress2018) and the
Vancouver International Bird Festival taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre, August 20 - 25.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Educators register online and download grade-specific program kits. Each student selects from a predetermined list of endangered bird species for study and to depict it in art. Educators select and submit scans of the student artwork for inclusion in a youth virtual mural by May 31, 2018.
A juried selection of 100 student artworks will be printed and mounted in an associated installation at the AFC Festival and IOCongress2018 events.
A grand prize will be selected from among the finalists.
To participate, register by May 15, 2018, at the following link:
Enter the SECRET CODE "iocongress2018" in the form when prompted.
An account will be automatically created for you and you will receive a
n email confirmation with instructions to access your account in
the
future.
I hope you will join us on this unique and exciting project. If you have any questions, please email Artists for Conservation's Education
Manager, Rosslyn Shipp at
[email protected]. Also, please share this with your in-province colleagues teaching grade 3-7.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Whiting
