Monthly On-Campus Update
May 2018

May is Here!
In this, your last newsletter of the academic year, we'll cover important info regarding residence hall move-out, severe weather, dining and retail hours of operation, and more.

We hope this year brought more than just progress toward your degree. We hope you made new friends, learned a little about yourself (and life), and most of all, we hope you had fun.

If you're not returning next year, it was a pleasure hosting you! If you are, watch your K-State inbox for move-in info in late July or early August.

To all of you: Have a fabulous summer!
The residence halls close at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12.
Spring Weather
As you no doubt noticed over the past three days, the weather in our area can change quickly this time of year. Kansas State University administrators encourage students, employees and parents to use weather apps and local news to stay informed of frequently changing and potentially severe weather, such as tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail and flash flooding.

If impending danger threatens one of the university's campuses, the K-State police or communications team will use K-State Alerts, the university's emergency notification system, to send notifications through email, websites, social media and text messages to those who have signed up. Specific safety information for residence hall residents and apartment residents is located on our website.

The K-State mobile app is another method for notification and can be downloaded from Apple's App Store or Google Play.

The safety of all K-Staters is the university's first priority. Please stay informed and safe this spring.

Housing
Move-Out Information
The residence halls close at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12. We ask that you see your hall staff to check out of your room within 24 hours of your last final, if it occurs before the official closing time.
Summer Housing is Still Available!

Still looking for a place to stay this summer? Housing and dining services offers week-to-week contracts so you can stay for as few as two weeks or as many as 13!

If you are living in the residence halls in fall 2018, the housing cost will be waived and you only have to pay for a 15- or 20-meal plan. Learn more, get answers to frequently asked questions and apply!

Move-Out Recycling
Summer is almost here! As you gather unwanted items in preparation for move-out, we ask that you utilize the recycling receptacles located in your hall's main lobby for nonperishable food, clothing, blankets and pillows, school supplies and books.

For larger items such as furniture and rugs, please use the corrals located next to the large trash and recycling bins outdoors.

Conflict Resolution Course, Fall 2018
Introduction to Conflict Resolution
During the fall 2018 semester, the School of Family Studies and Human Services is offering two sections of FSHS/CNRES 300: Introduction to Conflict Resolution, which is an eight-week, online course designed for students of all majors and programs across the university.

The course is a survey of conflict resolution strategies that will provide students with the knowledge and relevant skills to be better classmates, friends, partners, family members, and workers in their future careers. Emphasis is given equally to foundational concepts of how to manage conflict more effectively as well as activities that allow students to practice these new skills. The seven major topics covered include the psychology of conflict, communication and conflict, intrapersonal and interpersonal conflict, conflict in families and across cultures, conflict in organizations and the workplace, negotiation and mediation.

The course counts toward K-State 8: Social Sciences and Ethical Reasoning and Responsibility, the Human Development and Family Science minor and Conflict Analysis and Trauma Studies minor elective.

Enroll today through KSIS.  The instructor contact is Hunter Stanfield at [email protected].
