Art & Writing Award Winners - Several of our students placed in the 2018 Kappy Family Anne Frank Art and Writing Competition! This competition is to empower and inspire today's students to lead our world to a better future. The theme was The Power of Hope, and students were asked to reflect on the lessons of the Holocaust and to create a written or artistic response to the following quotation from Anne Frank's diary, "Where there's hope, there's life. It fills us with fresh courage and make us strong again."

FHS - The French Honor Society of Mercy High School welcomed 16 new members at the Annual Induction ceremony and Awards reception held in the Media Center April 25. Mrs. Penny Denomme helped Mme Joyce Campbell and Mme Cheryl Corte prepare for the French reception following the ceremony. The induction ceremony was highlighted by a beautiful candle lighting ceremony, in which the current members welcomed the new members by sharing the flame and reciting the pledge of induction. During the induction, La Marseillaise was also played as the French flag "Le Tricolore"was raised by the members.

The following 2nd and 3rd year French students were proudly inducted after a year of candidacy and participation. We congratulate these new members and wish them success in their continued studies of the French language and culture.

Madame Sattler attended the ceremony where she congratulated the new members and spoke to the members and their parents in French (she is proficient in French) communicating her love of languages and how important they are in the world today!

Come see Mercy students direct and act in 9 one act plays on Saturday, May 5th in the Drama Studio. Tickets are $5 for the whole day. The plays begin at 11am and run throughout the day.

Henry Ford Health System MHSAA physicals will be offered to current and incoming Mercy High School students and athletes. They will be held in the gymnasium at Mercy on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 5pm-7pm. The cost for each physical is $20 or $25 with ECG, payable by cash or check made out to Henry Ford Health System.

All incoming 9th graders, transfer students, athletes, and those taking a PE class will need a physical performed and signed (by an MD, DO, PA, or NP) on or after 4/15/2018. Physicals performed at Mercy will be scanned and uploaded to your Privit account after you create.

On Easter Sunday of 2018, 12 seniors at Mercy High School and 3 adult chaperones embarked on a week-long mission trip to Kentucky. I was one of those 12. For me, Mercy's alternative spring break was a good opportunity to get my service hours in and a change of pace from the growing monotony of school, work, and extracurricular activities. Little did I know it would become one of the best experience's of my life.

On the first day of spring break, we were pushed straight into work. It was cold, windy, cloudy, muddy. The day was every imaginable form of miserable. Some of us tied bandana's around our ears, because our helmets couldn't fit over our hats properly. But we were all fairly cheerful, in that bitingly teenage way, trading jibes and bantering back and forth with one another. I spent half of that first day working on sub flooring, and the next half up on the roof. By the end of the day, we were all sore, tired, and hungry. But then, we met Rebecca Willis for the first time.

Rebecca Willis is the homeowner of the habitat home we were building. She is a single mother of two children, and a generous and loving neighbor to all. Rebecca, to all of us, is an example of being the change you wish to see in the world. I didn't get an opportunity to speak with her in depth, but her cheerfulness and steady presence always lifted my spirits.

Throughout the week, I got to spend most of my time on the roof, and I was surprised at how rewarding the work was. When talking to one of my roommates, we agreed that this was the most fun we'd had on spring break. I'd been so scared I would regret my choice to go on alternative spring break, but I didn't. In fact, it awakened in me, and most of the girls who went, a sense of purpose and empowerment. We were able to touch someones life in a positive way, and cause direct change in the world around us. It is something none of us will forget.

Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage and Tour

Dublin, Ireland

July 15 - 26, 2019

The Young Mercy Leaders program began in 2011 with the visit of Mercy secondary school and college students from around the world to Mercy International Centre. There they discovered together the riches of the Mercy story and were able to return to their daily lives better equipped to be leaders in their schools and world.

The program was such a success that it is now being offered annually with secondary school and college programs being offered separately in alternate years. In 2019, the Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage for secondary school students will be held again in Dublin, Ireland at Mercy International Centre Tuesday, July 16th through Friday, July 19th, 2019.

In our Foundress Catherine McAuley's time, the building that is now Mercy International Centre, Baggot Street, Dublin, was a thriving centre of education and training and it is wonderful that for these 4 days, the voices of young people from Mercy schools around the world, will once again echo through the corridors and rooms. "Our hope is that Catherine McAuley will become a living presence in the lives of those who participate in this pilgrimage" says Breege Donohoe RSM, a member of the 2013 planning committee. We are pleased to be able to again offer to our students this opportunity to experience the summer 2019 Young Mercy Leaders Pilgrimage. Visit www.mercyworld.org.

In the week following the Pilgrimage itself we will explore the beautiful country of Ireland. Our tour will be guided by Irish Catholic tour escort and storyteller Batt Burns and will include stops in Knock, Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, Sneem, Killarney and many more of Ireland's most treasured places. While in Batt's hometown of Sneem we will work with their local Youth Ministry Group on a service project and will spend the evening with the locals enjoying traditional Irish music and dancing. Batt may even have a story of two to share.

When we make our way back to Dublin making a stop at Blarney Castle on the way. We will close with the Catherine McAuley Walking Tour of Dublin where we can experience more richly the Mercy story by exploring many landmarks of importance in the life of Catherine and the history of the Sisters of Mercy. We will explore more of the rich history of Dublin.

We will be holding an informational meeting with our representative from Corporate Travel for parents whose daughters may be interested in joining us for this once in a lifetime, Mercy immersion experience!

The first meeting to be held on Mon. May14th 2018 at 6:30p in the Media Center.
