 January 19, 2019 - January 27, 2019
Westland's Annual MLK Day Freedom Walk and Ceremony -  Andrew Humphrey, Meteorologist and reporter at WDIV, will deliver the  Keynote Address at the City of Westland's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ceremony on Monday, January 21 Participants are asked to gather at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. or the Westland Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway beginning at 8:30 a.m.   From City Hall, weather permitting, participants will be shuttled to the Westland Public Library for the Annual Freedom Walk, which will begin at 9 a.m.  The Freedom Walk will honor all of those who marched with Dr. King over 50 years ago.  The short walk will end at Westland City Hall, where participants who parked at the library can be shuttled back to their vehicles. Be sure to check facebook, twitter, WLND and www.cityofwestland.com, as any cancellation of the freedom walk due to weather will be announced at 8:00 a.m.  City Hall doors will open beginning at 8:30 am. The  ceremony, which begins at 10:00 a.m. will include uplifting messages from Mayor Wild and other state and local elected officials.  Light refreshments will be provided by the Westland Police Community Partnership Committee and the Westland Firefighters Public Awareness Committee.  

City Offices Closed in Observance of MLK Day - All City Offices will be closed on Monday, January 21 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  This includes the 18th District Court and the William P. Faust Westland Public Library.  Trash and recycling pick up will not be affected due to the closure.  

MLK Open Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena will host a special open skate on Monday, January 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The cost is $3 for admission and #2 for skate rental.  The ice arena is located at 6210 N. Wildwood.  

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Disability Concerns
  • The Disability Concerns Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. 
City Council
  • The Westland City Council will meet on Tuesday, January 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  

Downtown Development Authority
  • The DDA meeting will be held on Thursday, January 24 at 8:00 a.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  

Friday Night Movie - The Westland Library will host their Friday Night Movie on Friday, January 25.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6:15 p.m.  Snacks and refreshments are provided and donations are accepted and appreciated.  This month's movie is, "Venom" (Rated PG-13).
