"Write it on your heart that everyday is the best day in the year."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Snowflakes are flying outside as a new storm heads into the high country this week. The lake froze in a blink of an eye over the holidays creating the perfect ice oasis. While adventurers are enjoying the ice and snow we have been in full swing with customer renewals, work orders and preparing for the upcoming boating season. We may have summer on the mind but Mother Nature is constantly reminding us that it is still very much winter.

If you have driven around the reservoir lately you may have noticed numerous huts out on the ice surrounding the Marina. Heated to about 60 degrees those huts provide a comfortable atmosphere for all of our ice fishermen and guests as they hope to catch  brown trout, rainbow trout, kokanee salmon and arctic char. If you're looking for a fun activity to do with family, friends, or just by yourself make sure to sign up with one of our guides (they'll even send you home with dinner!) All you need is a fishing license which can be purchased at Walmart or City Market.

Ice Castles

"The Ice Castles are an awe-inspiring, must see winter phenomenon that brings fairy tales to life."

Back for their second year, the Dillon Ice Castles were the first of the six locations to open due to our fantastic early season conditions.

The town has been a buzz with folks flocking to see these beautiful sculptures. If you are planning on going, make sure you buy tickets in advance as weekends and holidays have been selling out. They will also be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays to allow the team to continue to build and grow the icicles.

For information, hours, tickets,  and employment opportunities check out their website:

Hello There,

I'm back! Nothing like a joint replacement to remind you about gravity. The knee is healing quickly these days and I can see that this will be a huge improvement for my future. My Dad used to always say that "if you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough". Well.....I've certainly spent a lot of time being dumb so.....

Things are cruising along down here at the marina. Jared has been working hard in the shop and we are planning for the Spring. The snow continues to fly up here in the High Country. The Colorado River Basin is currently sitting at 101% of average and Colorado is sitting at 95% Statewide.

Check out the snow pack stats here

Great to see the Front Range get some snow last week! The cycle we are in for the next few days looks very promising with strong snowfall in most mountain areas. Hopefully these patterns will continue, and we will have a healthy runoff in the Spring. I'm not skiing this season so if you're out enjoying the white stuff, have another beer at the bar for me (after skiing of course).

Jared and I are off to Florida next week for the annual International Marine and Boatyard Conference. Always fun to see the latest and greatest in our industry and rub elbows with the big kids. It's like watching a good Warren Miller flick just before ski season.

I hope you are all having an awesome January! See you soon.

News from the Back Office!
by Shannon Jakoby

Hello from the office! Or as I like to call it, the polar ice cap! Recent frigid temperatures, coupled with a broken furnace at the marina was a chilling reminder that I'm not the only one feeling her age lately! But thanks to my space heater and our friends at Dillon Plumbing and Heating, we're all toasty now!

You know the cold didn't freeze my productivity by the amount of emails you've been receiving from me over the last few weeks. Marina renewals went out electronically on January 4th and the 2019 Spring Work order went out about an hour ago!

Other than churning out renewals and work orders, the office has been busy preparing for the upcoming season; updating all of our marketing materials and ordering fun new merchandise for the ship store! In February, Suzanne, Karlee & I will attend the Rocky Mountain Gift Show, where we'll spend a few days shopping and pretending it's work. Make sure to catch the February & March Buzz for updates on what we find!

Lastly, as you may have noticed, Suzanne Phillipson, our new Marketing and Events Coordinator, has been a big contributor to the Marina Buzz lately. I'm starting to take a step back and letting her add her magic to the marina news. Don't worry, you can still find all my bad jokes here in the "News from the Back Office!"
