Come celebrate 2018 as we look forward to 2019 here at St. Patrick's! Our Annual Meeting will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019 beginning at 8:45am with a breakfast in the Parish Hall. The Vestry will present on behalf of the four pillars of ministries of the parish. Staff will present on their departments. We will be electing four new vestry members for the 2019-2022 term, as well as a youth vestry member for a one-year term.
There will be no Christian Formation classes on this Sunday so that we may all join together in this fun and inspiring gathering.

Team Trivia has added a new date to the calendar! We will be meeting at O'Brian's Tavern on the 3rd Thursday of each month. The address for O'Brian's is:

Meet at O'Brian's Tavern for fellowship and some friendly competition. The game begins at 8:00pm and we gather beforehand to claim a spot and grab a bite or a drink.

Foyers Gathering

Happy Foyers New Year 2019! After several wonderful Foyers dinner parties in 2018, we want to kick off the 2019 Foyers season in good style with a Foyers gathering at the beautiful home of Jim & Martha Myers in Roswell on January 19 at 6:30 pm.
Foyers is a fellowship activity aimed at building church community and participation is open to all in our parish. Foyers at St. Patricks is a wonderful way to reconnect with old friends as well as to welcome newcomers into the parish family. Solar Power Update
As I finish my term as Senior Warden, I look back and take pride with our vestry team that we have progressed and in most cases completed, the nine areas of focus we tasked ourselves with, at our October 2017 Visioning Weekend.
The completion of many of these "jobs" are more visible and tangible than others and in the interest of transparency therefore, we wanted to share with you all, our current perspective on Solar Power and St Pat's.

Members of St. Patrick's have been interested in and investigating the use of solar power here at the church for several years. More recently, a Vestry working group consulted with several organizations, all of whom have provided valuable information and analysis about the potential for solar power at our church.
The investigations show that, in many ways, St. Patrick's is quite well-suited for solar power. The building has a lot of usable roof space for a solar array, and the large refrigeration units that Malachi's Storehouse uses makes our baseline power consumption steady and predictable (which is important for making solar arrays cost-effective). Because of these factors, the estimated savings generated by a 50-kilowatt-hour solar array would exceed $8000 per year.
Despite these advantages, the challenges involved in implementing solar power are significant. At the time of the study, the initial cash outlay for the system was estimated at well over $80,000. This means that it would take 8-10 years to make back our investment, which is a daunting prospect- especially considering the existing operating budget and long-term building maintenance challenges we face. Additionally, soon after the most recent set of estimates were completed, the tariffs on solar components from China were sharply increased by the Trump administration, which complicated the financial picture even further.
Based on these realities, the vestry has concluded that now is not the right time to pursue an investment in solar power, and that we can better serve the parish focusing on more immediate concerns and goals.
That said, there is one other detail we should share. There are creative ways to fund an investment in solar power that would not have as large an effect on St. Patrick's budget. One of those ways involve a charitable investment by a group of parishioners that have the financial resources to help with this kind of project. The tax benefits to such a group of investors would be significant and ongoing- and if such a group ever comes to be, it would change the viability and priority of solar power as one of St. Patrick's long term goals.
The vestry will continue to regard the possibility of solar power as a long-term aspirational goal for the parish, and will keep the congregation apprised of any changes or developments that affect the viability of the project. As always, we place our trust in God, and trust that the Holy Spirit will guide us in this and in all things.

St. Patrick's Endowment Fund
The Mission of St. Patrick's Endowment Fund is to provide parishioners with the opportunity to create a legacy by giving St. Patrick's church an enhanced financial capacity for long term ministry.
"...some sow seeds, some water them, and God gives the increase." 1 Cor. 3:6
What is the Society of Sowers (SOS)?
In accordance with 1 Cor. 3:6, the SOS are the folks who sow seeds for future needs. A more formal definition looks like this: The Society of Sowers is the patron group of St. Patrick's Endowment Fund. Each Sower envisions a future at St. Patrick's where ministries continue to bear fruit and funds enable the next generation to carry on God's work. To this end, he or she is willing to commit financial resources to seed St. Patrick's future.
Why should you contribute?
By contributing financially, sowing seeds, you help to ensure the future of God's work at St Patrick's. Does sowing seeds for the future of St. Patrick's ministries strike a chord with you? If so, we ask that you prayerfully consider joining the Society of Sowers. There is no minimum seed investment. Give as you are led and appropriate to your circumstances.
You may become a Sower by filling out a form that lets us know you have:
- Included St. Patrick's Endowment Fund in your estate plans
- Designated St. Patrick's Endowment Fund as a beneficiary of some other financial instrument (life insurance policy, retirement plan, Charitable Remainder Trust, Charitable Lead Trust, or Charitable Gift Annuities)
- Contributed assets directly to St. Patrick's Endowment Fund (cash, stock, or real or personal property)
If you wish to join the thirteen who have already become Sowers or have any questions about St. Patrick's Endowment Fund, any member of our board will be delighted to meet with you. In the meantime, please pick up a copy of our brochure found on the information table in the narthex.

Transformation for Ministry
A Monday night offering from Mother Julia+
Transformation for Ministry is a class grounded in the exploration of transformational practices to attend to the nurturing of spaciousness for the growth of freedom, joy, and courage in discipleship, prophetic imagination, and ministry of presence.
We will meet for nine Monday evenings, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., interspersed from February through May.
Because creation of community is an essential part of this experience, committed attendance at all classes, as well as completion of assigned practices, readings, and reflective writing is expected. The work load is not heavy, but a commitment to regular practice and completion is essential.
Will you join me? This is an offering that has been developing in my heart for over ten years, and I am so delighted that it is coming to fruition!
The dates for this class are: February 4, February 18, March 4, March 18, March 25, April 8, April 29, May 6, and May 13.

Children's classes run from 9:00-10:15am.
- Nursery - Room 6: Care for infants and children up to age four is provided on Sunday mornings in Room 6, 8:30am-noon, with the wonderful Marias.
- Little Lambs - Room 6: Ages 3 and 4 begin in the Nursery, and then move next door to an adjoining room for a half hour of story, craft, and music, after which they return to the nursery for additional play time.
- Agape - Room 4: Kindergarten through Fourth Graders meet and use the curriculum "Living the Good News" and building community.
- Club 5/6 - Room 7: Fifth and Sixth graders meet and use the curriculum "Living the Good News," building community, and preparing to move into St. Pat's youth program the following year. Teachers design fun "field trips" around the church as part of the lesson.
- Music - 9:00-9:10am Kindergarten through fourth grade in their Sunday School room
- Music - 9:25-9:45am Club 5/6 in the Youth Music Room (Room 10)

- The Rites of Passage Class (Rite 13: 7th-8th Grades) - Room 12: A major component of J2A is the way it is structured around Rites of Passage that mark the transition of young people from childhood to adulthood.
- J2A Class (9th-10th Grades) - Room 3: This class begins a two-year preparation for a Holy Pilgrimage. This sacred journey has the potential to transform not just the young pilgrims who travel, but also the congregation who has sent them forth.
- YEA (11th-12th Grades) - Room 14: The YEA class has learned to pray, to share their faith with each other and they have traveled to sacred places where others have found God. This last piece of the journey into adulthood seeks to actively equip and enable them to be a part of God's healing presence in the world. Confirmation is offered in this class.
- Music - 8:45-9:00am J2A and YEA in the Adult Choir Room
- Music - 9:10-9:25am Rite-13, playing the bells in the Youth Music Room (Room 10)

The Forum
Come join us for a discussion of the Church's response to immigration, Sundays, January 20, and February 3 & 10 from 9:15-10:15am, in The Parlor. We will be guided by the Sojourners eBook entitled "Christians and Immigration, " and will examine specifically the Episcopal Church's positions and statements on the plight of the undocumented in the United States.
