EON Reality VR Innovation Academy (VRIA) Omaha
Exciting Skill Development Opportunity
on the UNMC Campus begins June 4, 2018
Applications for the EON Reality VRIA 2018 being Accepted!

Starting June 4, 2018, this course provides a unique opportunity to learn how to work in the expanding worlds of virtual, augmented and mixed reality.

The AR/VR industry is among the fastest growing sectors of the economy, creating an increased need for skilled professionals, including designers and developers. The EON Reality VR Innovation Academy (VRIA) Omaha is being created in response to workforce development needs. Housed on the UNMC campus in Omaha, the Academy provides 16 weeks of theoretical and practical training with 33 weeks of project-based learning. Upon successful completion, students will receive an EON Reality AR/VR Developer Certification .
 
The next open house will take place on May 15, 2018 from 5:00-7:00pm CT i n the iEXCEL Visualization Hub - RSVP is requested . All interested in learning more about applying to the Academy are welcome.  Additional information and to RSVP to the May 15 Open House.

Upcoming Events:
iEXCEL: Major Contributor to
the KANEKO Reality Exhibition
The KANEKO  Reality  Exhibition will feature iEXCEL as a major program component showcasing advances in visualization and simulation in health care. The blending of science, technology and art to stimulate creativity permeates the iEXCEL portion of the Reality exhibition. Participation and support are being graciously provided by various industry collaborators and UNMC innovators. Visit https://thekaneko.org/seasons/reality/ to learn more.

A number of complementary events will coincide with the KANEKO Reality season, including:
  • National Modeling & Simulation Coalition (NM&SC) 2018 National Meeting Reception (September 25)
  • Interactive demonstrations by UNMC/iEXCEL, e.g., Center for Advanced Surgical Training (CAST) and the SIM-NE mobile simulation units
  • A 'Visionary Series' will feature speaking events by UNMC Innovators and iEXCEL industry collaborators

Introducing
Tess McKinney, Chris Allmon & Austin Brake
Tess McKinney is the Advanced AV/IT Technology Specialist for iEXCEL supporting the growing technology resources.

Prior to UNMC, Tess worked as a help desk technician/technical trainer at Southeast Community College. She also provided freelance technology education training and new media design including 3D, VR and instructional design. She has 46 Microsoft certifications and 70 badges, including the prestigious Microsoft Innovation Educator Expert Award for 2017-18. Tess serves as a founding member for the "Cool Kids" Group for VR/AR/360 Camera technologies and Ladies Launch Lincoln, and as VP/web designer for the College and Community Service Organization. Tess has an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Information Technology from Hamilton College – Lincoln Campus.
Chris Allmon-Vetro is the Program Manager, AR/VR Modeling and Simulation. Chris oversees the daily operations of the EON Reality VR Innovation Academy (VRIA) and provides project management for the iEXCEL Visualization Hub by guiding internal and external visualization projects from conception to distribution.

Chris has been with UNMC for nine years in the College of Pharmacy for the Center for Drug Delivery and Nanomedicine providing program management and grant administration. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Austin Brake is an Advanced Simulation Specialist for iEXCEL. Austin supports simulation activities in the Sorrell Clinical Simulation Lab and in the near future, for the Davis Global Center. Prior to his new role, he was a part-time clinical simulation instructor for Simulation in Motion-Nebraska.

Austin is a paramedic and EMS educator with eight years of experience. He previously worked as a critical care flight paramedic and continues to volunteer as a paramedic and EMS educator for a rural volunteer fire department.

Showcased iEXCEL technologies in a “TryIT Zone” at AIM Institute's Infotech conference – attended by 1,000+ tech professionals!

Hosted CareeRockit – an initiative of the Greater Omaha Chamber connecting students and young adults with opportunities along the learning pipeline for growing career options.

Participated in UNMC-sponsored movie and music series at the Holland Center with UNMC Public Relations.

Presented at Film Streams; Home Instead Senior Care Director of Business and Academic Research, Molly Carpenter, and iEXCEL Director, Visualization and Technology, Bill Glass, led a discussion on the future of technology as it relates to health care and gerontology.

Omaha STEM Ecosystem, in collaboration with the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, o rganized a panel discussion on technology workforce development. Dr. Boyers served as a panelist, and iEXCEL staff showcased technology and new visualization content.
