21+ Event
Spend an evening with friends and neighbors at this benefit to support theater at Roosevelt High School. Featuring live music by The Betsies and Brothers D, a silent auction and a musical growler "cakewalk."

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.

Senior Families,

We are adding something new to the yearbook this year, we are about half full at this point and looking for more families to submit a free ad for their graduating senior. I am keeping the deadline open for this until it is full, but once we fill up the remaining spot submissions will be closed. If you are interested please submit as soon as possible. If you are interested please submit your ad by going to the link below.

Do you speak, read, and write in a language other than English?

Students in grade 10 or above who can read and write in another language can take a test to earn up to 4 semesters of college credit for free at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

Students can take the test on the following Saturdays.
* February 2nd at 8:30 AM at the Davis Center.
* February 23rd at 1:00 PM at Wellstone High School.
* March 23rd at 8:30 AM or at 1:30 PM at Wellstone High School.
On those days, the following languages are available. Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Hindi, Italian, and Portuguese.

Testing for Hmong and Somali languages to be announced after winter break.

Students who take the test and demonstrate proficiency in another language (and in English) will earn a MN World Language Proficiency Certificate or a MN Bilingual Seal.

Flyers with this information will also be posted around school.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CORNER
FREE ACT Practice Test
The ACT Practice Test will give you a chance to test what you’ve learned, and build focus and confidence for the official test. You will receive a full overview of the test scores.
Who: Open to all 11th grade students
When : Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where : In the Gym at Roosevelt High School
You can sign up in the Counseling Office.

The last day of the quarter is January 23 . Take a look at your second semester schedule before then and see your counselor if any elective changes need to be made . Do NOT wait till the second semester begins to request a change!

The STEP UP application is now open! DEADLINE IS 2/10 so apply now!

STEP UP is a summer internship program, open to Minneapolis residents between the ages of 14 and 21 (by June 1, 2019) who are eligible to work in the US and are not yet enrolled in college (PSEO is ok).
ONE of the following must ALSO apply:
  • You meet family income guidelines
  • You are a student with a disability
  • You have an IEP or 504 plan
  • You are an English language learner
  • You are a pregnant or parenting teen
  • You have been involved with the justice system
Current Scholarships:
Kiwanis Scholarship is now open! (Deadline January 30th, 2019). This scholarship is for students who have done a lot of community service while in high school. Application is available in the CCC, room 207 or from your counselor.

Roosevelt Foundation Scholarship is now open! (Deadline February 1st, 2019). One application is used for 30-40 different scholarships through the Roosevelt Foundation. Check the Roosevelt Counseling Department webpage: http://roosevelt.mpls.k12.mn.us/roosevelt_scholarship for more information or stop by/contact the Career & College Center for info!
Eligibility:
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must be a graduating senior from Roosevelt High School
AAUW Scholarship (Deadline February 8th, 2019): Receive $4,000 for your first year; renewable annually for a total award of $16,000; renewal based on satisfactory progress as a full-time student.

Eligibility:
  • Female Minneapolis Resident
  • Graduating senior from one of the Minneapolis Public Schools
  • Educational Goal: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year institution
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0
  • Demonstrated Financial Need
Wallin Education Partners Scholarship (Deadline February 15, 2019): Receive up to $4000/year for up to 4 years; work with a professional advisor throughout college, and have access to college-to-career opportunities through Wallin EP sponsored events and activities. Eligibility:
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Minimum 19 ACT composite
  • Have applied and intend to attend a private or public not-for-profit four-year institution in MN, IA, SD, ND, or WI or any Historically Black College or University in the Nation immediately after high school (no gap year)
  • Have a family taxable income of $75,000 or less (line 43 on your 2017 1040), low-to-moderate assets, and have financial need with regard to financial aid

  • Plan to study and pursue a career in one of the following fields: ▪ Information Technology ▪ Business Management ▪ Health Care ▪ Manufacturing/Engineering Technology
  • Have a family taxable income of $75,000 or less, low-to-moderate assets, and have financial need with regard to financial aid

Eligibility:
  • Be current high school seniors or graduates, ages 21 and under.
  • Be United States citizens and residents of Minnesota.
  • Be accepted for enrollment for the first time in full-time undergraduate studies at an accredited public four-year college or university in Minnesota for the entire 2019-2020 academic year.
  • Live on campus for the first year of undergraduate studies.
  • Have a minimum composite ACT score of 24 or higher.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

20 hours of Service
Per year is expected of every student, every year. If your student needs help figuring out how to get their service hours, tell them to check in with Ms. Christol in room 100.

SENIORS YOU WILL NEED 80 HOURS OVER YOUR HIGH SCHOOL CAREER TO GET THE SERVICE SEAL ON YOUR DIPLOMA

If your student is doing their hours OUTSIDE of the school, please have them bring in a paper that is signed, dated and phone number listed for the organization or person that they helped.
RECYCLING...EVERY MONDAY GET AN HOUR.
