Oklahoma CBT partners select Field Placement Awardees
The Oklahoma Community-Based Training partners are proud to announce that we have selected our student field placement awardees for the 2018-2019 academic year. The strong student projects include practica and dissertations that focus on traumatic brain injuries (mental health), breastfeeding and supplementation of late preterm infants (childhood obesity), opioid awareness and prevention with tribal populations (opioid abuse), electronic cigarette attitudes among youth (behavioral health), distribution and impact of trauma in Native American populations (mental health), and transition services for adolescents with developmental disabilities (mental health). The Hudson College of Public Health and the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board are two of Oklahoma’s CBTs hosting awardees.

Course Spotlight:
Transgender Health 101: A Foundation Course on Transgender People and Public Health

Transgender Health 101 provides a foundation in understanding transgender people and the trans community in the context of population health. TH 101 is designed for health providers and anyone interested in becoming more familiar with the transgender community

Learning objectives for this course include:

  • Define and differentiate between sex and gender, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation with respect to the transgender community and lesbian, gay, and bisexual communities
  • Identify each letter of the LGBTQ acronym and define each term
  • Articulate the proper use of pronouns and their importance
  • Recognize specific psychological distress and behavioral health trends encountered by people who are transgender
  • Describe population health and how this effects a transgender person’s access to health care and its cost and quality
  • Construct a safe zone for transgender individuals in your organization or community
