Here is an update of what is happening at
House of Prayer this week!
Worship This Sunday
Jesus turns water into wine. This happened while Jesus and his disciples were attending a wedding in Cana. Mary, Jesus' mother, notices the lack of wine. It could be a humiliating situation, but Jesus performs his first miracle. The joyful occasion would have ended, but with more wine the celebration continues. "Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him."

Even people unchurched as Christians know Jesus turned water into wine. With this familiar story comes a party celebrating the common joys of life. What does this say about Jesus, that his first miracle would be to sustain a crowd? One answer is that Jesus cares about things like marriage, love, and receptions. Where two or more are gathered in Christ's name, the Lord is there among us. Let us not hesitate. Join us on Sunday to experience the living Word that connects us to God and one another.
Call Committee Update
The call committee met with Rev. John Hulden from the Bishop's office last week. We're moving ahead with interviewing Minister Kelly. The next step will be to follow up on references. The call committee hopes to bring a recommendation to the LMT at their meeting on Thursday, January 24. Refer any questions to Scott Wright, Brent King, Monica Dorow, John Lankey, Karen Amezcua or Tom Haffley, the call committee members.
Community Organizing Training
This week some of our Community Engagement Team attended an organizing training hosted by the Mpls Synod. We explored new skills to keep reaching out into our neighborhood to work for positive change. The synod also connected us with other local churches seeking to do the same. Check in with Kim Houle, Savanna Kamara, and Ben Whalen to ask how it went and pray that their new skills can be put to good use in our community!
Housing Team Update
The Richfield Community Housing Team's next meeting is Tuesday the 22nd from 5:00-6:30pm at HOP. Current initiatives include partnering with VEAP to survey tenants about their current rental experiences and working with the City of Richfield to assess the need for barriers to accessible housing. If you'd like to join the team or learn more about our work, contact Ben Whalen ([email protected] or 612-500-9523).

Youth Collecting TP for VEAP
The youth group will be collecting toilet paper until February 13th when we take it all to VEAP. Toilet paper is an essential item for families who visit VEAP for food. Our goal is to collect 1200 rolls of toilet paper - can you spare a square? Donations can be brought to the VEAP bin outside the sanctuary.

House of Prayer Preschool is growing! We welcomed three new boys to our group and are already enrolling for fall. Contact us to learn more: [email protected]. Happy New Year to you!
Wednesday Night
Bible Study-Starts Next Week
Universally recognized as a literary masterpiece, the Book of Job skillfully intermingles poetry and prose to deliver a delightful rendition of creation. The sovereign grace of God is revealed in its glory. Don't think this is only a sad account of life. Let's dive in together and discover what we can in what some say be the oldest book of the Bible.
Six Wednesdays Starting January 16, 2019, 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall - Led by Pastoral Intern, Deanna Bassett
Which is Which??
Recycling/Compost/Trash
The Creation Care Team is hoping everyone will become even more conscientious about ways to protect our environment. Please notice the labeling on our new metal cans:
RECYCLING: glass/plastic bottles/aluminum cans/clean paper/cardboard
COMPOST: paper coffee cups/napkins
TRASH: everything else.
And a "Thank you" to those who are beginning to toss their used cups into the new composting bin next to the coffee bar.
Having everything sorted correctly will make it much easier for Ramo and for our garbage haulers. Watch for more information soon about Richfield's new composting program!

Would you like a visitor from one of our pastoral staff members? While we often hear of needs within the congregation, sometimes we are unaware of the needs within our family of faith. Pastor Ben or Minister Kelly would be happy to visit any of our members or friends who would like a pastoral visit. These visits could be health related but could be for any reason. Contact the church office via telephone 612-866-8471 or Pastor Ben via email [email protected].
