On Friday last week, the 6th and 7th grade classes went on a field trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore!
Sixth grade has been studying the Earth's oceans. For this trip, they focused on Chesapeake Bay watershed and the various ecosystems and diversity in Maryland's waters.
At the aquarium, they did a scavenger hunt of aquatic ecosystems with a focus on Maryland streams, tidal marshes and coastal beaches.
Seventh grade students have been studying the Animal Kingdom and are about to begin their "March Through the Animal Kingdom" for second semester. Each student chose an animal from one of the animal groups: Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds, Invertebrates, Mammals and Fish. While at the Aquarium, they visited the animal they chose and noted important facts about
food sources,
habitat, etc.

A Message from the Head of School:
Dear CES Families,
Christ Episcopal School is in the news and has recently received some wonderful recognition. The monthly publication,
Bethesda Magazine,
has a very well known annual edition called
Best of Bethesda
. It consists of two sections, Editors' Picks (which includes categories such as dining, shopping, fitness, and the arts) and Readers' Picks (which includes similar categories, as well as, schools). This year
Christ Episcopal School
was recognized as being a
Top Vote Getter
in two categories:
Best Private School for Academics (Lower School) and Best Private School for Music/Arts!
Congratulations CES and a big thank you to all of you who took the time to vote. Your vote made a difference.
We have also been given a page in the annual
Children's Almanac
2018 edition of the
Potomac Almanac
. On our page you will see a beautiful array of student artwork, poetry and essays.
I am SO proud of Christ Episcopal School and our students. What a great way to enter the new year.
In other news, I hope you will plan on attending the parent Look Ahead Day that is scheduled for January 23, beginning 1t 8:00am. This day is specially planned for current PreK4 through 7th grade parents. This is not an time for prospective parents. It is our opportunity to provide you with a glimpse at your child's academic program for the coming years while we are "in action."
Are you aware that the
last day of school for the 2018-2019 school year at CES is May 31, 2019
? We know that this may cause parents some difficulty in providing care for their children prior to the time when additional summer camps become available. Because of this, we are ready to plan and organize options on the CES campus in early June. However, we need your input! Please respond to the survey from Marion Entwisle, Director of Extended Day and Summer Camp, so that we know if you will need day time program opportunities for your child.
With love and gratitude,
|

CLASS ART REVEAL
Our Art Teacher, Luisa Vargas has been hard at work with your children
creating wonderful art pieces for you to take home February 8.
|
|
On rustic wood slices, Seventh Grade students created Christmas-inspired designs using nails and wrapping embroidery floss around the nails to fill in their designs. Later they added hooks on the top of the wood slide and added thread to easily hang the ornaments on the Christmas tree.
|
PS3 students, one by one, carefully printed their hands on the reusable bags creating different designs. Simple embroidery was added to finish each bag. These bags are perfect for carrying groceries and everyday supplies reducing the number of plastic bags that we use and discard every year.

CEC Shrove SUNDAY Pancake Breakfast & Mardi Gras Celebration
SUNDAY MORNING *MARCH 3rd*
8:30am - 1:00pm
Mardi Gras
(Translated from the French,
it means "Fat Tuesday") is a traditional
"last- chance blowout" before Lent.
It was used as a time to empty the kitchen
of all fattening and rich food before
Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
Thus, pancakes, syrup, toppings, sausage, and applesauce
are a Shrove tradition... and we'll celebrate on Sunday!
Bring friends, family & neighbors -
it's a great time to introduce someone
to one of our best traditions and as a special bonus... a chance to meet our NEW RECTOR, REV. LISA ZAINA!
