Give Local York - Tomorrow!
O Friday, May 4, York Catholic will participate in the first-ever Give Local York campaign.   Give Local York is a 24-hour online giving spree to benefit hundreds of York County nonprofits. The goal is simple -- to inspire members of the York County community to show their pride and contribute to the life-changing work of local nonprofits.

It's easy to show your support, just visit www.givelocalyork.org on May 4 between 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM EDT, search for York Catholic High School, and donate. Your donations will go even further because YC will have the opportunity to take advantage of Stretch Pool funds made available by generous community sponsors.

Thank you for supporting our YC students and school on May 4 and throughout the year!

Successful Spring Celebration
This past Saturday, nearly 200 York Catholic alumni, friends, parents, teachers, and staff came together at the Country Club of York to celebrate our YC pride and accomplishments, as well as to raise much needed funds in support of our mission.   Guests of YC's 3rd Annual Spring Celebration, presented by The Stewart Companies and the Saint Patrick Fund for Catholic Education, enjoyed an evening of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, fine dining, silent and live auctions, music by the YC choir led by Lisa Pantano, and poignant and eloquent reflections by retiring English teacher Terri Eline, and senior Brian Hand on what being a teacher and student, respectively, at York Catholic has meant to them.  Thank you to Cecelia Mezza and her YC student pianists for providing music during the cocktail hour.

Auction highlights from the evening included a week's vacation in Hilton Head, SC,  a refrigerated draft trailer all-inclusive party package,  sailing and dining on the Chesapeake, golfing at the Hershey Country Club, and a private deep-sea fishing charter, as well as opportunities to directly sponsor a YC student's experience.  Everyone who attended also had an opportunity to bid on  food and drink packages, family activities, sports items, one-of-a-kind artwork, home and garden gifts, pampering packages, and so much more!

All proceeds raised from this exciting evening benefit our York Catholic Fund, enabling us to invest in tuition assistance for those in need, a vibrant curriculum, technology upgrades, the arts and athletics, resources for our valued teachers, and the beautification and safety of our school.  We are excited to share that, to date, we have raised more than $90,000 -- t hank you to all who so kindly and generously helped to make the evening an overwhelming success!

A very special thank you to Barb '78 and Art Full '80 for serving as honorary chairs, to Susan '61 and Charles Burnside '63  and Maple Donuts for being a Major Sponsor, and to our parent volunteer committee including Lisa Blum, Beth Brennan, Kim Keesee, Chris Lesher, Lisa Lindeman, Eileen McKeague, Anne Smith '94, Mondi Sterling, and Tara Walker.  Thank you also to all of our YC families who generously donated towards our class baskets -- they were amazing!  Whether you  contributed your time & talents, financial support and/or donated a gift to our auctions, we cannot thank you enough.  Together, we are continuing our mission of education focusing on the cultivation of faith, mind, heart, and family and creating a bright future for our beloved students and school!
Mission Collection: Leiser Memorial Scholarship
Steve Leiser

Our final mission collection during homeroom on Wednesday, May 9, will be donated to the Stephen M. Leiser Memorial Scholarship Fund.  This is a scholarship that a member of the senior class of 2018 will receive for their education at a college or vocational/technical school.

Mr. Leiser was a dedicated science teacher at York Catholic for 23 years, and had a great influence on many of his senior students.  He battled cancer during his last year of teaching, and passed away eleven years ago.  Mr. Leiser's family created the Stephen M. Leiser Scholarship in his memory and usually attends the senior awards assembly to personally present this award.  Please help to keep Mr. Leiser's spirit alive by your contribution to this mission collection.

Senior Scholarships to Guidance Office
All Seniors were asked to take all of their acceptance letters and scholarship award letters to Mrs. Gingerich in the Career Room by Monday, May 7, for inclusion in the graduation booklet. We will make a copy for you and you can keep the original. This information is also used for our school statistics. We will honor their accomplishments by acknowledging the acceptances and scholarships at various functions and celebrations at the end of the school year. Seniors can also find their name on the bulletin board outside of the Career Room once their college/scholarship information has been received. We are proud of our seniors!
Parents of Seniors
As we prepare to celebrate our seniors' successful completion of high school, we remind parents of the following:
  • Please write a personal congratulations letter to your graduate and encourage siblings, grandparents, Godparents, teachers, and others to write as well. In the past, letters reminisced about the graduate's growth of life or hopes for the future. It can be a note card, a song, a poem, a card, or a 10 page letter -- your choice. Place each card or letter in an envelope and label it with your child's name, and be sure each letter is signed by the author. We would like each child to have a letter from at least one parent and 2 additional people.  Please place all envelopes and cards in a large envelope and send it to Roxanne Castellanos' attention at York Catholic by Friday, May 11. Please do not send gifts for students.

  • We are asking for assistance from parents of seniors for donations of food items for the Senior Breakfast.  Please click here to sign-up for needed breakfast items you could donate.  Thank you for your help!
New Process!  Sports Physicals Paperwork
to be Completed Online
Students wishing to participate in athletics during the 2018-2019 school year must submit the following paperwork online:
  • PIAA Physical Form
  • Athlete & Parent Agreement
  • ImPACT Test
Students wishing to play any sport during the 2018-2019 school year MUST verify the paperwork is on file with Mr. Hayek no later than Wednesday, August 1 , at 3 PM; no exceptions.

NEW!! PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT CHANGE

The York Catholic Athletic Department now hosts their Athletic Forms online with Arbiter Athlete, powered by PlanetHS, a software company committed to keeping student(s) safe. This digital platform will allow parents and athletes to complete and access most athletic forms (physicals, agreements, etc.) via computer, tablet, or mobile phone. It is HIPPA, COPPA, and FERPA compliant.

York Catholic will continue to host Sports Physicals at OSS Health on Thursday, June 7, from 6-7:30 PM.  Cost is $15.  Instead of printing 9 pages of information to take to the doctor as was needed previously, you will instead complete the information online and only print 2 pages for the doctor to review and complete.

Before forms can be completed by parent and student, ArbiterAthlete accounts must be set-up by each athlete and his or her parent. Click here for instructions on how to set-up an account. Forms will be valid for the entire 2018-2019 school year.

Failure to complete the online paperwork by the deadline will mean the student will not be permitted to practice the first day of the season. For some sports, this could mean the student will not make the team. Contact Mr. Hayek at  [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x244 if you have any questions and to be sure you have a valid ImPACT Test on file. If you need technical assistance with Arbiter Athlete/PlanetHS, email [email protected].

IMPORTANT MEETING
A brief instructional meeting regarding these changes will be held for parents and athletes Wednesday, May 16, at 7 PM in the YC auditorium.

The students will rehearse from 3:30-5:30 PM, then perform for the public on stage in the YC auditorium at 6 PM. We encourage you to attend this free event to support the current and future students of YC.
Athletic Association Meeting
The Athletic Association meeting scheduled for May 7 has been moved to May 31.  At that meeting we will be holding open elections for the Executive Board.  If you are interested in running for a position, please email Kevin Bankos at  [email protected]  by May 25
