Community Office Hours
They happen every Thursday from 3 - 5 pm at The Coffee Depot, 501 Main Street, Warren (unless otherwise noted). Community Office Hours are for anyone in the church or community who would like to stop by and visit with Brendan in this more informal setting. All are welcome.
East Bay Kids Clothing Swap
Held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, the next one is Saturday, January 19th from 9:30 - 11:30 am in Fellowship Hall. The swap is a place to trade in clean (non-stained) clothes and shoes, and get clothes the next size up for newborn to age 12 years old.  Open to the community, there’s a $3-$5 donation at the door but no one will be turned away. Learn more at https://www.facebook.com/EastBayKidsClothesSwap
The organizers are looking for musicians for their events - see below.
The Kid's Clothing Swap is recruiting musicians
To make this thriving family event at our church even more exuberant, the clothing swap organizers are looking for musicians of all varieties to come share their talent and provide music for the clothing swappers. If you have a singing voice, sing with a group, play an instrument, or have a musical talent of any kind that you’d like to share, this is a chance for you to enrich a community event with your gifts. Contact Meghan Sheehan megsheehan@gmail.com and Brendan brendan@bccucc.org to coordinate! The clothing swaps take place on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 9:30 – 11:30 am in Fellowship Hall.
Youth Group Meeting - change in time
The Youth Group meeting this Sunday, January 20th has been rescheduled to the earlier time of 2 – 4 pm to accommodate our football fans who don’t want to miss the evening game! In the first hour, from 2-3 pm, we will plan for this April’s mission trip. Even if you’re not going on the mission trip all are welcome. We can use everyone’s help! Youth group meets in Room 9 and is open to everyone in grades 6-12.
Church Office Closed for holiday
The church office will be closed on Monday, January 21st for the Martin Luther King Jr, holiday.
Mindful Mondays
No mindful Monday on January 21st as it's a holiday. They'll resume on Monday, January 28th and will take place every Monday (unless it's a holiday or otherwise noted). Led by Brendan, there is a 20-25 minute guided meditation, a contemplative reading or poem, then tea and discussion. The sessions are designed to be inclusive for people of all faiths and are open to the public.  All are welcome.
Book Group
Book Group next meets Tuesday, January 22nd at 11:30 am at the Coffee Depot, 501 Main St, Warren, to discuss Turner House by Angela Flournoy: “In this wonderfully lively debut novel, Flournoy tells the story of a complicated family, stepping back in time to show the parents' early married days in the 1940s, their move north to Detroit from the rural South, and how their children each experienced a different version of the neighborhood, which comes to symbolize both the hopes and dashed dreams of Detroit's lower-middle-class blacks. Encompassing a multitude of themes, including aging and parenthood, this is a compelling read that is funny and moving in equal measure.” (Booklist) For more information about the group, please contact Helen Schall at helenschall@hotmail.com or 245-4724. All are welcome!

Our church’s Annual Budget Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 27th in the sanctuary immediately after worship. All church members are encouraged to attend, and child care will be provided.

Miscellaneous
Thank you from Irons Homestead
We recently received a letter of thanks from Rev. Jennifer Geary, Director of Irons Homestead Camp and Retreat, and member of our church. BCCUCC, together with some of the other churches in the RI Conference UCC, had been asked to help support the 2018 camp program at Irons by underwriting some of the costs. Thanks to the generosity of several churches, including ours, they were able to provide enriching Summer programming for children ages 6-18, many of whom were currently living in shelters. Read Jennifer's letter.
Haiti Delegation posts updates and photos
A delegation of nine members of the Rhode Island Conference traveled to Haiti from January 9th - 15th, 2019 as part of the Conference's Haiti partnership. One of the participants, Irons Homestead Director Jennifer Geary, posted updates and photos via social media. They have been compiled on the conference website and can be found at this link.

Opportunities to get involved
Join the choir - it's good for you!
Numerous studies have shown the health benefits of singing in a choir. So why not join the BCCUCC church choir? No audition is needed and all voice parts are welcome. To learn more speak with our organist/choir director Marina Zabinski after church on a Sunday, or contact her at 726-5118 or marina@bccucc.org - or just come along to a Wednesday evening rehearsal. We'd love to have you join us.......plus you'd be doing something that's good for your body, mind and soul!
