Houston, TX - Houston City Council Member Dave Martin is pleased to announce Houston Public Wor
ks (HPW) crews will be working on a project to update the City's traffic signal controller software at all signalized intersections in the Kingwood area, beginning Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Minimal disruption is expected during the process of conducting these updates to signalized intersections on Kingwood Drive, Northpark Drive, and West Lake Houston Parkway.
Since being sworn in, Council Member Martin has recognized the need for improved mobility and safety in the Kingwood area. This update of the City's traffic signal controller software should improve mobility and decrease disruption due to improperly timed lights.
Residents can expect to see te
mporary flashing signals while parts in the traffic signal electrical cabinets are being replaced. Signals are not expected to be flashing longer than 10 minutes. Crews will be on site between 8:30 a.m., and 4:00 p.m. at various intersections. Lane closures are not expected throughout this process. The updates are expected to be complete by mid-February if all hardware and software replacement is successful and weather permits. HPW staff will continue monitoring these signals for several days after the updates are completed.
Residents can continue to report issues to 3-1-1. However, HPW asks the public be aware of the update process and recognize that reporting flashing signals while City personnel are working in the cabinet may not be necessary. Once the updates are complete, we ask that residents report any unusual operation to 3-1-1, allowing HPW to investigate and implement any adjustment in the program as needed.
