January 2018 Newsletter
WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Fellow and Future WTS Colleagues,

As I begin a term as president of the Greater D/FW Chapter of WTS, my first order of newsletter business is to thank outgoing President Belinda Pate and the Chapter Board of Directors for making our Chapter productive and fun. I look forward to working with all of you to sustain and enhance that success.

I thought the second order of newsletter business should be to give you an idea about where I fit in the transportation industry. I currently serve as the Public Information and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Manager for Pegasus Link Constructors, LLC.  In this role, I administer the federal subcontracting/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program and oversee and manage the marketing and public information efforts for the Southern Gateway Project, and more notable, what is known as the Horseshoe Project in downtown Dallas. I have been involved with program management, workforce development and community relations for 15 years, and I have worked in highway construction and the transportation industry for the past 10 years. I have been a member of WTS for 7 years, and have served in various capacities on committees and the board.

But enough about me and before I become the president who couldn't end a newsletter column...

I am excitedly looking forward to a great WTS year. There are so many wonderful ways to be involved in our efforts to mentor students, create opportunities and provide fabulous networking opportunities. I'll be talking more about that in future editions.

Until then...

Adrienne Williams

JANUARY PROGRAM

MEET TOYOTA EVENT: January 19, 2018

There's a new campus in town and the Greater D/FW WTS Chapter got to see it on Friday, January 19th.

Toyota was a fabulous host for our monthly program. We learned what it takes to move 4,000 people from various office locations including California to Texas in a company effort to consolidate facilities and foster better communications between three of Toyota's divisions -- manufacturing, sales and financing.

Our presenter and tour guide was a delight and entertained us as he told us Toyota's story and took us on a tour of the new campus.

And what a campus it is!  Several restaurants, an exercise facility complete with rock climbing wall, and a health center where you can receive medical attention are a part of the campus. Rooms that would hold 25 people, 50 people and more, small phone or huddle rooms, casual seating clusters to allow team meetings, and social media pods are among the more than 500 meeting spaces they have on the grounds. The architecture allows for natural light in every space on the campus, and large monitors are available for wayfinding. And, throughout the campus, there are displays -- big and small -- promoting Toyota's sponsorship of the Olympics.
