2 Corinthians 4:15

Does the Bible need to be updated?
By Dan White

My Kids will come to me when they have a problem with math. Once my son said, "The book is wrong. I followed the directions but the answer in the back does not match my hard work"

Was the book wrong? No, most likely he made an error. Maybe it was a computational error, maybe he skipped a step, or maybe he used a faulty method leading him to the wrong conclusion. But rather than redo the math problem, ask someone who knew more, or dig deeper into the concepts, it was easier to decide that the book needed to be changed or updated. While it is possible that there may have been a typo in the math book, the fact remains, the essentials of the book, the math theorems, and the math definitions have not changed.

We live in a day and age where I hear this proclaimed often, "The book is wrong" Or "It needs to be updated." The answer does not match up with my feelings or beliefs. The book that they are referring to is not a math book printed several years ago, but a book that is over 2000 years old, the Word of God.

Can you picture this happening in a college room setting? A young man raises his hand and declares, "The book is wrong." The instructor comes to him and points out where it went wrong, but the young man insists that he is right. So the instructor calls in the head of the math department and tells the same story. The young man then says "your old way of thinking needs to change. You don't have to multiply both sides of the equation by 4 to keep it equal. You can multiply one side by 2 and the other by 4 and it is equal. Those math laws may work for you, but they don't work for me"

Do you see how ridiculous it is for students to argue or debate the veracity of math laws with someone that has studied it longer than they have been alive?

Likewise, the Bible has been proven true time and time again. In fact, many civilizations are founded on the standards established by God, and proven through history. So just because it "feels good" or "it works good for me" are not good reasons to update the Bible.

Psalm 119:160 The Sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever
