NEW PRAYER CANDLE TABLE DURING WORSHIP
Starting this Sunday, January 20
at Both Services

We are offering a new element in our worship experience--a table of prayer candles.  During our opening hymn, anyone wishing to lift up a quiet, private prayer by lighting a candle may do so.  Simply come forward, light one of the lighting sticks from the central candle, use it to light a votive candle and silently offer your prayer.   When you are finished lighting your candle you may pass your light to another person or extinguish it in the sand.  Please stay as long as you like.  If you wish to have Rev. Deb or Rev. Joyce pray with you, you may share your prayer with one of them.  We hope you will enjoy yet another way to offer your prayers.

We will welcome Rev. Stephanie Price to the pulpit on January 27 at both services. Rev. Stephanie is a former associate pastor at our church, and is now the founding and developing pastor of "The Land", a fresh expression of what a worshipping community can be. The Land is a faith community that nourishes sacred relationships between Creator and all of Creation through food, faith and farming. They have about ten acres in Aurora, Colorado. They meet on Saturday mornings at their amphitheater worship, and host special retreats and activities. They have an edible labyrinth which is also a community garden, along with plans for other development. MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

God Loves Your Humbleness

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."

- Philippians 2:3-4

You're awesome. You're fabulous. You're simply amazing! After all, you're God's own creation. You sparkle with God's Spirit and shine with God's love. But your shine is never brighter than when you're helping others to discover their own sparkle and shine. It's when you say, "You take the lead, I know you can do it", and "You would be so wonderful at that". When you consider others better than yourselves, when you humble your heart, your ego, and your pride, you are truly a glittering jewel in God's heavenly crown.

In Christ's Grace,
Pastor Deb

GUATEMALA MISSION TRIP
June 28 - July 7, 2019

The UMCE Missions Team recently hosted Joanna Cook from the Church of the Hills who discussed a mission opportunity she and her church have been supporting for several years.  We thought this mission would be a wonderful chance for our UMCE congregation to also join in participating, personally or as a family mission.  Although the deadline for registration this year is a bit tight, we want to share the following introduction from Joanna:

The Pura Vida Ministries English Camp with which I'm involved takes place in Guatemala for a week (June 28 - July 7, 2019) in the Quiché province/state of Guatemala, working among the Mayan population.  The students are from 4th grade to 9th grade and they learn English in school but usually don't have a  teacher who is fluent in English.  The kids are great and so eager to learn how to improve their fluency and their pronunciation.  We work on vocabulary and grammar, but use games and songs a lot to make the learning more fun.  It is a week of immersion for these students!

Pura Vida is not officially linked to any denomination; however, lay pastors of the Guatemala Methodist Church are on their staff and Pura Vida works closely with the John Wesley School that was founded by the Guatemala Methodist Church.  We invite any interested persons to participate in the English Camp, no matter what their church affiliation is -- so far we've had Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, etc.

For any questions, contact Michael Eaton (720.348.9857) or Joanna Cook (303.588.4137).
