In the Press: New Study Calls for Universal Genetic Testing of Breast Cancer Patients
In an upcoming article in the  Journal of Clinical Oncology  and accompanying invited editorial, Dr. Holmes and his co-authors present compelling evidence supporting universal genetic testing of breast cancer patients for pathogenic hereditary cancer mutations. In a 1,000 patient national study of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, an equal frequency of deleterious mutations was detected in women who both met and did not meet NCCN genetic testing guidelines. These findings support universal genetic testing of breast cancer patients and may someday lead to a change in NCCN genetic testing guidelines.
