Palm trees, ocean breeze, salty air, sun kissed hair. That endless summer, take me there.

Hello From Kentwood Store

I'm Quanika Thompson and I'm the store manager here at the Kentwood Family Store. Prior to my employment here with The Salvation Army, I was working, and still do work, part time at the Heartland Rehabilitation Center. I started working here in Kentwood store in 2007 as a cashier. My ability to learn quickly, work with staff, and working with customers gave me an opportunity to move into a key holder's position becoming part of the management team in 2008. Over the following 6 years, I learned more about the business side of running The Family Store, and was given an opportunity to advance within the organization to my current position of manager in 2014.
The past 8 months has been somewhat challenging, but with PRAYER, determination, and help from the management team, things have been turning around within the store. The Kentwood store has and continues to receive compliment and praise from our customers; this lets me know that we must be making a turn down the right track.
I have learned so much insight about The Salvation Army and their mission statement, which I firmly believe in. "Doing The Most Good" helping to change lives right here in the community in which I live. This Makes it a blessing to be part of the process as an employee of The Salvation Army.

Beneficiaries of the Month

Mike E.

Before I came to The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center, Alcohol had totally taken over my life. I lost so much to this disease and had lost all hope for the future. With a complete turnaround in my life, the program here at the ARC has allowed me to rekindle my relationship with the Lord and given me a sense of self-worth. I am very grateful for the loving kindness of everyone that has helped me in this recovery transformation.

I have spent my work therapy in the kitchen doing what I love. Feeding everyone who has been working so hard every day is a real satisfying feeling. I feel that this is a form of work service in "my" program.  When they announced that I was the Beneficiary of the Month, I was humbly surprised to receive such a reward doing what I love.

I have been so blessed by my loving supportive wife for 15 years. She has been my rock through a lot of turmoil. I look forward to living the rest of my days a sober man with a little hunting, fishing, and golfing on the side.
