A Message from Superintendent Dutton

Dear Friends,

During the Admissions Window every year, we give tours and hold Informational Meetings to share our option with the public and prospective parents.  This annual process brings us back to our purpose and gives us a chance to share our vision for education in this community. Speaking with parents who sense the difference this model will make in their child's life inspires us to remain committed to our mission/vision.

Many of these parents tell us they learned about our schools from friends who have children at The Academies.  Thank you for sharing your stories with the people you know!  When you take the time to tell your friends and family members that now is the time to apply, you are sharing with them the opportunity to experience high quality public education, increasing access to our schools.  You are doing nothing short of changing lives.

Please continue to spread the word to those you know by forwarding your News & Notes emails, talking to friends and coworkers, sending an email with the application linked, or posting/ re-posting the opportunity to join us on social media.  Your voices matter, and they help our community access these excellent educational options for children.

Thank you for the trust you place in our team to educate and nurture your children. And thank you for graciously extending the chance to be a part of our community to others by spreading the word to apply now!

Ruth

Birthday Celebrations!

at The Academies, we love celebrating each other. What better way is there to celebrate than to make a lasting contribution to your school?

It's been a long-standing tradition to donate a book to your child's classroom library in lieu of sweet treats which are not allowed.  Our students love to celebrate this way!

Poetry & Prose

Is your child a performer?  Confident speaking in front of others? Would s/he like to be?  If so, Poetry and Prose might be just the thing to try! This county-wide oral interpretation event is open to all SVA students, grades K-8.
  • Students may perform alone, in partners or a group.
  • Material may be read or memorized (memorized is pre ferred).
  • Selection may be a piece of poetry or prose.
  • Typical entries are 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Meaningful gestures and facial expressions are encouraged.
  • No costumes, props or character makeup is allowed.
SVA is limited in the number of students we may send to the county competition, so  a uditions will be held after school on Monday, February 12th.  Selected students will perform in front of an audience and judges at the Tulare County Office of Education on Thursday, March 22.  Sign up forms are available in the front office with Mrs. George and are due by Wednesday, February 7.
