The New York Life Foundation is seeking applicants for its Aim High grants to support afterschool, summer, or expanded learning programs serving middle schoolers. Aim High will provide $2.25M over three years to middle school afterschool, summer, or expanded learning programs serving disadvantaged youth. Office Of Early Childhood And Out-Of-School Learning -EARLY CHILDHOOD CAPACITY BUILDING GRANT PROGRAM
This early childhood education grant opportunity is based on the requirements of House Enrolled Act 1004 of the 2017 session of the Indiana General Assembly. This Request for Funding (RFF) seeks applications from 1) Indiana community/county coalitions with early childhood education providers or 2) individual Indiana early childhood education providers, to build their capacity to serve more children and/or increase the quality of services provided. School on Wheels' is now accepting 2018 Education Champion Award nominations through January 30, 2018. This award honors an individual making an impact on Indiana students. You can nominate an educator, volunteer, mentor, coach, staff member or youth worker who you know is doing amazing work on behalf of youth in Indiana. The School on Wheels 2018 Education Champion winner will be selected by a panel of judges and be recognized publicly. Lilly Endowment Comprehensive Counseling Initiative (Round 2)
 From the Lilly Endowment's website:
"Lilly Endowment was very pleased with the broad and positive response to the Comprehensive Counseling Initiative for Indiana K-12 Students (Counseling Initiative). Hundreds of Indiana public school corporations and charter schools demonstrated a deep commitment to improving and expanding their counseling programs. Because of this significant response, the process became quite competitive. The Endowment therefore has determined to offer a second competitive implementation grant round of the Counseling Initiative for which it has allocated up to $10 million.

Any public school corporation or charter school that was eligible to participate in the original Counseling Initiative but did not receive an implementation grant in the first round is eligible to apply for an implementation grant in this second round, regardless of whether it submitted a proposal under either the planning grant or implementation grant phase of the original initiative."

The MENTOR Network Charitable Foundation offers the Community Partners program to organizations that are either delivering innovative care or developing new ideas and models for doing so. Partners are creative, effective and focused on the highest quality standards. They are also results-oriented, leveraging resources and knowledge to positively impact individuals and communities and to transform society's vision of and approach to its most vulnerable members. The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation is offering funding of up to $500 to design and implement a creative program for your school or library! Public schools, public libraries, and public preschool programs are encouraged to apply. Due March 31, 2018. More HERE .

The Charitable Contributions Committee is charged with overseeing charitable giving and encouraging decentralization of charitable giving so that the greatest impact is where Costco's employees and members live and work. STEM Fest 2018
On Feb. 11 the Indiana Pacers will host STEM Fest 2018. This interactive event is open to students of all ages and their families. It is a great opportunity to learn how science, technology, engineering and mathematics are used in sports and other careers. Throughout the day, students and their families will be partnered with a mentor from a local company, university or non-profit organization while participating in several STEM activities. Representatives from universities and STEM organizations will be available to discuss future career paths for those interested. Tickets are $10 a person and include admission to the event and the Pacers game. Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 12. Using digital technology for outdoor exploration with PBS KIDS' PLUM LANDING
For out-of-school time program leaders looking to get students outside more, it might seem counter-intuitive to introduce digital media into their programming. After all, don't kids already spend too much time in front of screens? Why use digital media when what you really want to do is get kids outdoors?

PLUM LANDING, the innovative PBS KIDS multimedia project that encourages children to explore the outdoors, has an answer to that question: Because digital media can actually enhance kids' exploration of nature! Learn more HERE.

The Afterschool STEM Hub  is a collaboration among out-of-school-time program leaders and stakeholders to provide coordinated messaging and communications that impact advocacy and policy and help ensure the important place of informal, afterschool and summer programs in the STEM learning ecosystem.  It is led by the Afterschool Alliance and generously supported by STEM Next, an initiative launched by the Noyce Foundation. Connect & collaborate with STEM programs through The Connectory!
With the launch of The Connectory, it's easier than ever for kids to connect with STEM programs and opportunities, and for STEM practitioners to collaborate, develop partnerships, and share resources. This free online collaboration tool gives STEM program providers a chance to find partners based on interests as well as a platform to showcase STEM opportunities to families. Families, in turn, have a free, go-to resource to connect the children in their lives to STEM learning opportunities in their community.

COLLEGE and CAREER READINESS RESOURCES
FAFSA
The 2018-2019 FAFSA opened October 1, 2017. All 21st Century Scholars must submit a FAFSA in order to be eligible for the 21st Century Scholarship. We encourage all seniors to create an FSA ID before beginning the FAFSA. The FSA ID serves as a legal digital signature, and both the student and at least one parent must have an FSA ID. The FSA ID can be created the federal student aid website.

Paper Tigers Documentary Screening: Q&A with Filmmaker James Redford

Paper Tigers is a relevant and timely documentary that explores the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on struggling teens. The film follows a year in the life of Lincoln High Alternative School in Walla Walla, Washington. After radically changing its approach to disciplining its students, Lincoln High School saw a dramatic turnaround in everything from the number of fights to test scores to graduation rates. The school has become a promising model of how to break the cycles of poverty, violence and disease that affect families through the practice of ongoing trauma-informed educational strategies.  CLICK HERE for more information and to register.

CYCCB Portfolio Assessor Training
Portfolio Assessors are a critical part of the certification process. Assessors help CYCCB evaluate portfolios during the application process. Assessors are typically, CYCCB Board and Advisory Committee members and other certified practitioners who volunteer their time.

CYCCB will hold another Portfolio Assessor training on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 1:00 - 2:30 CENTRAL and Tuesday, February 20, 2018 1:00 - 2:30 CENTRAL. To become an assessor, a person attends both of the 1 ½ hour webinars. Between the webinars the new assessors evaluate a sample portfolio. To become an approved assessor, a person completes the webinar based training and then works with a more experienced assessor for a period of time following the training. Assessors typically evaluate 1-3 portfolios each month. Assessors can ask for time off when time crunches occur. Beginning in January portfolio assessors will be paid a $25 stipend for each portfolio they review.

Youth Opportunities Fair - March 12
Save the date for Congressman André Carson's 5th annual Youth Opportunities Fair from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on March 12 at the Central Library (40 E. St. Clair St). Last year's event connected over 800 Marion County young people to 60 nonprofits and businesses offering job, internship, volunteer, and youth development opportunities. The Congressman, joined by Marion County Commission on Youth, The Indianapolis Public Library, EmployIndy and JAG Indiana, invites your organization to participate in this unique event. Exhibitors will interact with youth and young adults throughout the day, providing information about open positions and/or programming opportunities. Stewards of Children
As part of the Early Intervention and Prevention (EIP) Initiative, Children's Bureau Neighborhood Alliance for Child Safety (NACS) is the proud facilitator of the national child sexual abuse prevention training program Stewards of Children in Marion County. This national award winning program is a prevention training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The Indiana Prevention Resource Center (IPRC) training team provides a variety of in-person and online trainings for anyone who would like to gain more expertise on a topic. Several free and interactive online courses are part of this training portal and contain hour-long, self-paced modules for alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs, tobacco, motivational interviewing, and many more! Early Learning Advisory Committee 2018 Annual Report
Each year, Indiana's Early Learning Advisory Committee (ELAC) conducts a comprehensive needs assessment on critical early learning indicators and presents recommendations to the Governor's Of ce and the Indiana Legislative Council on ways to address the identi ed needs. This report focuses on the care and education of young children ages 0-5. It highlights both Indiana's progress and areas where improvement is needed based on the needs assessment completed last year in 2017. The data presented in this report is compiled from multiple sources and provides a comprehensive overview about the state of young children in Indiana.

Key findings include:
  • in 2016, there were 506,761 Hoosier children ages 0-5 with 25% living in poverty;
  • in 2017, a single parent in poverty would need to spend 54% of their income to pay for high-quality care;
  • of the 133,270 children enrolled in known programs, only 49,300 (37%) were enrolled in high-quality programs in 2017 - this has increased from 33% in 2014; and
  • two-thirds of families with young children ages 0-5 need early childhood education due to all parents in their household working.

Scholarship Opportunity for High School Seniors (Closes 1/18/18)
Since 2008, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Indiana (RMHCCIN) has awarded more than $800,000 in scholarships to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. In 2018, RMHCCIN will award 20 Central Indiana high school seniors each with a $5,000 scholarship. Energy Assistance Program begins November 1
The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) provides financial assistance to low-income households, below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level ($36,900 income limit for a household of four), to maintain utility services during the winter heating months through funding from the Federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) block grant. The program is administered through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority and implemented through Community Action Agencies with outreach offices in every county. These agencies provide the intake application process and utility vendor payments. World of 7 Billion Video Contest
Back by popular demand, the World of 7 Billion student video contest helps you bring technology and creativity into your middle and high school classes. The contest challenges your students to create a short video connecting world population growth and one of three global challenges: Advancing Women and Girls, Feeding 10 Billion, or Preventing Pollution. Students can win up to $1,000 and participating teachers will receive free curriculum resources. The contest deadline is February 22, 2018 - use this lesson plan to get started now! The Indiana State Museum is proud to offer free museum admission to groups of 10 or more K-12 students visiting from 21st Century Community Learning Centers during school breaks. ISM can help K-12 students meet Indiana Academic Standards in physical science, earth science, life science and STEM-related standards. Research shows that encounters with original artifacts, performances, and hands-on activities, all available at the Indiana State Museum, reach children who do not respond well to traditional teaching methods. Research further demonstrates that children who visit museums have higher achievement in math, reading and science. The Homework Hotline started in 1991 as a toll-free telephone service. Several online features have been added in recent years, and the iPhone app gives students easier access to Rose-Hulman students that are available as hotline tutors from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday during the school year. The foundation is accepting applications for its Youth Literacy Grants program. The Festival Fund 
Established in 2011 to support and promote the activities of organizations in the greater Indianapolis area that enrich cultural life by celebrating cultural expression and encourage understanding and appreciation for different cultures. Qualifying community organizations may apply to receive funding to support their international or cultural event in grant awards ranging from $500-$2,000. The Fund is supported by a generous grant from the Indianapolis Foundation with additional support from the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation. 

Project Learning Tree 
Accepting applications from schools and nonprofit organizations for environmental service-learning projects through its GreenWorks! grants program, which is designed to help students make their schools greener and healthier by, for example, implementing a recycling program, conserving water and energy, improving air quality, or establishing a school garden or outdoor classrooms and integrating these projects into the curriculum.

Grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to support environmental projects that demonstrate service-learning, exemplify student voice, and involve at least one community partner. To be eligible, projects must secure at least 50 percent in matching funds (in-kind acceptable).

Karma for Cara Foundation
Encourages kids 18 and under to apply for funds between $250 and $1,000 to complete service projects in their communities. Whether it is turning a vacant lot into a community garden, rebuilding a school playground or helping senior citizens, Karma For Care Foundation wants to hear what kids are passionate about. 
 
The Finish Line Youth Foundation 
The charitable arm of athletic products retailer Finish Line, provides funding to youth athletic programs and sports-based camps, especially those serving disadvantaged children and those with special needs.

To that end, the foundation administers three grant programs: Programmatic grants, Legacy grants, and Founder's grants.

1) Programmatic Grants: Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to nonprofit organizations in support of community-based athletic programs and to established camps that teach active lifestyle and team-building skills.

The NEA Foundation is inviting applications for its Learning and Leadership Grants program. The program provides support to public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education through grants to individuals to fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences such as summer institutes or action research; or to groups for collegial study (including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for new faculty or staff). To be eligible, applicants must be a public school educator in grades Pre-K-12; a public school education support professional; or faculty and staff members at a public institution of higher education. Preference will be given to members of the National Education Association. The grant amount is $2,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF) is a joint initiative between Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA.) The mission of BTF is to promote and enhance the growth of youth participation in baseball and softball throughout the world. Grant Opportunities: Voices for Healthy Kids

Strategic Campaign Funds: (Open RFA grant opportunity) aim to fund strategic issue advocacy campaigns focused on fighting childhood obesity through state, local, and tribal public policy campaigns. The duration of these grants will vary but will generally be 1 year or less. Awards can be made up to $90,000. Applications must be specific to an individual campaign goaled to change public policy in one state, local, or tribal geographic location and must align with one of the six Voices for Healthy Kids policy priorities. Budgets must include one Campaign Coordinator position and a legal contingency of no less than 5% of the operating budget as well as matching funds on behalf of the applicant.  
Rapid Response grant opportunities: aim to fund short-term, reactive projects expected to be pushing policies for passage in the next three to six months and must align with one of the six Voices for Healthy Kids policy priorities. These grants provide strategic and supplemental funding for ongoing state, local, and tribal public policy issue campaigns in order to increase public policy impact in the fight against childhood obesity. Rapid Response awards range from $15,000 to $100,000 and project duration is anywhere between two weeks to six months. Funding is for non-lobbying activities only, must include a legal contingency of no less that 5%, and cannot be used for staff salaries.

Delta Dental Foundation provides financial support through its Brighter Futures Community Grants program to various community organizations and programs which promote/provide oral health care for children. This year, the DDF will be providing $150,000 to support programs which specifically focus on children's oral health. More HERE.

Dorothea Haus Ross Foundation
