Approximately 30% of autistic children have a co-occurring ADHD diagnosis
In this Issue: ADHD and ASD, Digital Medicine, and Promising New Treatments

ADHD is very common among children on the autism spectrum, with researchers estimating as many as 50 percent of children with ASD have some ADHD symptoms, and roughly 30 percent receiving a co-occurring ADHD diagnosis. Unfortunately, ADHD medications are not as effective in autistic children compared with their peers without ASD. But a new
"digital treatment" showed promising results in a pilot
study.

CAR pilot study shows promise for Project:EVO, a digitalized treatment targeting ADHD symptpoms.

Researchers at CHOP, in collaboration with Boston tech company Akili Interactive and colleagues at Children's National Health System/Georgetown University and UC-San Francisco/Cortica, recently published results of a pilot test of Project: EVO, a digital treatment that targets players'
"cognitive control" abilities to help improve attention and
reduce ADHD symptoms.
Research conducted at CHOP finds children diagnosed with ASD and ADHD had more problems with executive function skills.

Children diagnosed with ASD and ADHD have more problems with executive function skills compared to children diagnosed with ASD or children who were developing typically, according to research conducted by CAR. This fact drives home the importance of finding ADHD treatments that work for autistic children, say researchers.
