Oak Grove Avenue Closure This Weekend

Caltrain will be performing foundation installation work in Burlingame to support the railroad electrification project. This work will require a temporary street closure at the Oak Grove Avenue grade crossing. Oak Grove Avenue will be temporarily closed from Saturday, January 19 at 10:00 p.m. to Sunday, January 20 at 5:00 a.m. Illuminated and directional signs will direct vehicle traffic to Broadway Avenue and North Lane as detours on the night of the closure. Happy One Year Anniversary to the Adopt a Drain Program!

It has been one year since the City of Burlingame launched the Adopt a Drain Program! Thanks to 86 drain heroes, 112 drains have been adopted in our city. To adopt a drain near your home or business, visit www.burlingame.org/adoptadrain and check out the Adopt a Drain map. Adopting a drain means pledging to keep it free from litter and debris. Plus, the City will provide free cleaning supplies for volunteers. Did we mention you can also name your adopted drain?
Your Book Donations Matter Every Day at Our Library!

Your Burlingame Library Foundation is hard at work making sure that the Library is a vibrant and amazing place for all of our residents. The Foundation funds terrific and creative children and adult programs, teen events, author evenings, Family Fun Nights, summer reading programs, and poetry months, along with the latest in technology and work spaces.

This past year, in partnership with the Library trustees, the Foundation created a new Speaker Series, hosting "This American Life’s" Ira Glass, and an interview of activist/actress Patricia Arquette by Representative Jackie Speier. During 2018, the Foundation’s book sales team sold more than 58,000 books, all donated by community members, and raised $109,400 – the highest amount ever.

Books sales translate directly into the programs we know, love, and count on from the Burlingame Public Library.

You can donate books, CDs, and DVDs of all kinds at the main library at 480 Primrose Road. For pickups of large donations, contact books@BurlingameLibraryFoundation.org, or call 650-588-7491. Donations are tax-deductible, and every dollar raised supports free Library programs.
Environmental Tip of the Week
Drop off unwanted, unused, or expired medications at a safe medication disposal site

Do you have old prescription drugs lying around? Starting January 2019, there are more places where you can safely dispose of these items. Walgreens is providing free safe medication disposal options in all of its drugstores. Learn more at walgreens.com/combatdrugabuse.

If you're not located near a Walgreens, you can always take your old medications to your local Police Department in San Mateo County. For a list of locations, please visit www.smchealth.org/rxdisposal.
