Teacher Highlight

David Constant, a native of Thibodaux, LA is in his 18th year of teaching and his 11th year in the Diocese of Houma/Thibodaux. Constant currently teaches 9th grade religion as he has spent over 20 years in youth ministry. He is the Head Baseball Coach, the Special Teams Coordinator for the football team and the Head Fishing Team Coach. He received his Bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport in Psychology and spent two summers in Grad studies at LSU Baton Rouge in Sport Pedagogy.

Before arriving at E. D. White, Constant was the Head Baseball coach, assistant football coach and taught religion at Vandebilt Catholic for four years. Prior to that, he served as the campus minister at Loyola College Prep in Shreveport where he also coached baseball and football. He began his high school teaching career in 2000 as the Head Baseball Coach at Plaquemine High School.

Constant began his first year of coaching as a Graduate Assistant for the Louisiana State University Baseball team for the 1999 season. Constant then received an offer to be an assistant for Coach Mark Cresse at his School of Baseball in Southern California after LSU's 2000 College World Series title. He credits a ton of his coaching philosophy from Cresse and Skip Bertman of LSU for the time spent assisting with their camps.

Constant said that his time at EDW has been such a huge blessing. "I believe the sanctuary, Holy Spirit and Jesus feeling that you receive when you are on campus is truly special. As a young boy I recount walking the EDW track with my PaPa and Doctor Hillman in the early morning hours of the summer. I will never forget how my PaPa would put money in the donation box walking into the stadium each morning when he didn't have to do so to enter the track. Also, my father, Daniel, played football on the same field that I get to coach on and those two things are really special to me."  Constant said that it all comes down to the students and walking with them in their spiritual journeys in the classroom or on the athletic fields. "I feel we truly have good- hearted students and I am blessed to be a part of it all." Constant said that his faith continues to grow with the time spent with students whether it is in the classroom or on the playing fields. "My heart is full and thankful for the entire administration putting their trust in me as it is an honor to help carry out the mission of EDW. It is hard to describe how awesome it feels to have an administration whose heart is ablaze for the Lord," said Constant, "Finally, I want to thank all the parents and grandparents who sacrifice and make the commitment to send their kids to EDW.  Forever EDW!"
