As of February 1, 2019, our new address will be:

We will be located in the US Bank Building on the corner of Mineral Point & Gammon.  We can't wait to see you in our new space!
Wisconsin Food and Nutrition Programs Will Continue Despite Federal Government Shutdown
FoodShare members will receive their February benefits this month.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced today that funding for February benefits will be available for current FoodShare members, those participating in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), despite the federal government shutdown.

"During this time of uncertainty, Wisconsin residents should be assured that FoodShare, WIC, and other federally funded food assistance programs will continue uninterrupted through February," said DHS Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm. "Our top priority is to ensure the needs of Wisconsin residents are met and to share information with members, partners, and stakeholders as the situation evolves."

Advocacy
Survival Coalition's Budget Recommendations to
Governor Evers
The Arc Dane County is part of a larger, statewide coalition that seeks to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.  The Survival Coalition brings organizations together to collaborate for the greater good of people with disabilities.  This group recently sent a document with 5 pages of recommendations for Governor Evers to strongly consider for the Biennial Budget.  Many of the asks contained in this paper are of particular interest to The Arc Dane County families, including these summarized points:
  • Create a Governor's task force on caregiving to improve state policy for recruitment, training, ongoing support, and retention of caregivers.
  • Improve Medicaid prior authorization for children.
  • Medicaid Purchase Plan (MAPP) changes were approved last budget but nothing happened.  Current income spend down limits established in 1986 are dated and inadequate.
  • Audit special education quality and outcomes.
  • Analyze regional and racial inequities in the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR).
  • Expand transportation funding to help low income people commute to work and increase specialized public transportation.
  • Increase direct care worker wages to $15 per hour.
  • Enhance benefit package for caregivers by creating a Medicaid Buy In Program.
  • Develop a tiered rating system across all long-term care systems and include transportation costs across a person's individual employment support needs.
  • Provide funds for supported employment for people with mental illness.
  • Direct DHS to develop greater capacity to serve deaf, blind, those with mental illness, those with substance use disorders.
  • Fully fund 1388 newly eligible medicaid services.
  • DHS fund 12 Family Support and Disability Resource Centers (FSDRC) located with ADRC's.
  • Pursue medicaid waiver to allow billing medicaid for supportive services related to housing.
  • Increase dental reimbursement rates if they treat people with disabilities.
  • Fund mental health needs of children in DPI budget.
Your voices will be needed.  The Arc Dane County will keep you informed of progress.  Click here to read the entire paper.
