This Week Blanket Sunday - Our Congregation Impacting the World
For many years, Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church has been helping to keep our neighbors
warm by providing blankets to families here in the United States and around
the world through Church World Service Blanket Program.
What difference can a blanket make?
A blanket can provide warmth to a victim of a flood or fire or serve as bedding to
a guest in a homeless shelter or be a gift of welcome to a newly arrived refugee or
migrant worker.
And last year blankets made a difference in the lives of families living in Colorado's
rugged and rural San Luis Valley.
In a remote area of the San Juan Mountains called "the flats," many homes don't
have running water or electricity. During the winter, when temperatures drop to
life-threatening lows, many of these families heat their homes using only firewood.
Often their firewood runs out before the winter ends.
That's where our help comes in. Because of our support of the CWS Blankets
Program, Church World Service provides blankets to many organizations and
nonprofits, including La Puente, a mission that provides services to the families
living in "the flats."
At the beginning of last winter, Robert Lockwood, one of the case managers for the
Rural Outreach Initiative, deliver
ed the blankets to these families. The warm, wool
CWS Blankets were a welcomed gift.
Today our church has an opportunity to provide hope to many families. This Sunday we are
taking a special offering to help provide blankets and other emergency items to
families all around the world.
For only 10 dollars, you can give a blanket that can provide warmth and shelter,
comfort and privacy, and healing and hope wherever God's people may need care.
We have so much to share, so please give generously. Thank you.

Welcome Guest Organist
Kathleen Healy-Wedsworth is a native Californian who received her Bachelor of Music degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR and a Master of Sacred Music degree from The School of Sacred Music at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. She has served churches in Mt. Vernon, NY, South Orange, NJ, Plainfield, NJ, and Somerville, NJ. From 1999 until her retirement in June 2009 she was the Minister of Music at The Presbyterian Church of Toms River, NJ. Since then she has held interim positions at several NJ churches and continues to serve as an accompanist and substitute. Kay has been active in the PC(USA), having served as the national president of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, as a member of the editorial board of the journal
Reformed Liturgy and Music, and twice as the director of the national worship and music conferences at Montreat, NC. As an Elder at The Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, she serves as Chair of the Worship Committee, a member of the Personnel Committee, a member of the Handbell Choir and on the PW Board.
We welcome Kathleen Healy-Wedsworth as our guest organist this Sunday. We are grateful for her willingness to share her vast musical experience with us in the worship of God.

2018 Year End Donation Statements have been either emailed or mailed this past week. If you have not received yours or have any questions, please contact Donna Ferry, who is available in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays before 1:30 pm. If you are not already receiving your statements via e-mail, please consider helping by going green. Look for the green sign-up slip including with your mailed donation statement. There are a few 2019 offering envelope boxes still located on the table in the Narthex. A reminder note to those with boxes waiting to be picked up has also been included with your mailed donation statement. Annual General Meeting of the Congregation and Corporation of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church
The Annual Congregational Meeting will take place on Sunday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. (Snow date: February 10). The Congregation will elect the Nominating Committee (for the election of officers), and conduct any other business that may properly come before the Congregation. The 2018 Annual Report is available in the Narthex or can be read online.
Parents may pick up their children from Sunday School after the meeting.

A Reiminder...It is Per Capita Time Again
The way our denomination funds the different levels of ministry support is by requesting each congregation to submit a contribution based on the number of active members.
For 2019 our congregation is expected to contribute $40 times 331 members (the number on the rolls as of the end of 2017). If every member would become personally accountable for this amount, we could easily meet this obligation that sustains the Monmouth Presbytery, the Synod of the Northeast and the General Assembly. During this time of transition, we realize the value of our connectional system that provides available Interim Pastors (like Pastor Osy), liaisons to the Presbytery's Committee on Ministry (like Rev. David Cotton), coaches for our New Beginnings Program discernment stage (like Rev. Jeanne Radak), and eventually, access to the General Assembly's Church Leadership Connection where pastor candidates are matched with congregations seeking new pastors.
None of this could be offered without the support of per capita giving! Please use the per capita envelope in your offering envelope box and indicate "per capita" on the memo line of your check, or you can always use PPPC's convenient online giving option. Thank you for playing an active role in support of the Presbyterian Church (USA)!

Point Beach Prep Open House This Month
The Point Beach Prep Open House
to register for the 2019/2020 school year
will be January 26th, 10am-12pm.
Church members listed in the Directory may register in advance on Friday, January 25th 12-2:30. There is half off the registration fee of $100 if you register on this day or at the Open House.
Point Beach Prep is an early learning center for children
2 1/2 to 6 years old where children are encouraged to play, create, imagine and solve problems. We promote kindergarten readiness. We make learning fun, while building self esteem and a positive attitude toward learning! Point Beach Prep Preschool offers morning and afternoon programs, along with an optional extended lunch hour.

Session Highlights
The following actions took place at the January Session Meeting
- James Conway Jr. reported that he and Deb Brendler completed the audit of
 financial records of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church for 2016 and 2017 and are "confident that the processes that the Finance Committee members follow are well reasoned, carefully followed. They safeguard the collections and authorize approved payments...and that financial records fairly represent the financial results of the church for 2016 and 2017."
- Karen Norby reported on the progress made in the North Hall Gallery, especially thanking Jim McGuire, the Boy Scouts, Randy Crate and Anthony Coppolino for their efforts in making the Gallery a reality. Karen's art background experience makes her an ideal person to lead the North Art Gallery Team, currently comprised of Robin Cook, Adrian Fanizzo, and Celisha Scarpone. Future possible exhibits are being envisioned and the team has made contact with people who can share publicity of gallery activities with the general public, thus attracting to our church county and neighborhood residents, as well as area visitors. Presently, our first exhibit by photographer Jeff Childers is being mounted. Keep your eye out for the grand opening!
- A motion was made and seconded to approve the 2018 Church Statistical Report. The motion passed and the report will be sent to the PC(USA) on time and will appear in our Annual Report.
- A motion was made and seconded to approve the PPPC 2019 Worship Schedule, effective January 13, through July 7, 2019. The motion passed.
- A motion was made and seconded to covenant with Monmouth Presbytery to pay $6,620 for the 2019 fiscal year for Per Capita assessment. The motion passed.
- A motion was made and seconded to pay $5000 for our 2019 Monmouth Presbytery Mission Pledge. The pledge is divided for General Assembly, Synod, and Monmouth Presbytery projects. The motion passed.
- A motion was made and seconded to clean out unnecessary furniture and stored items in the former Associate Pastor's Office. Reconfiguring furniture arrangement (old and new) and adding a white board will make the room more useful and pleasant for small meetings. The motion passed.
- A motion was made and seconded to approve the 2019 Church Budget with changes. The motion passed.
- A motion was made and seconded to allocate an initial $5000 in the 2019 Budget for the position of Youth Leader plus $500 for related programming and events. The motion passed. The details of the position are being worked out with the goal of planning and developing a youth program for current and future middle and high school students.
- Fourth through sixth graders are invited to volunteer to serve as acolytes for Sunday Worship. Many congregation members have commented that they are happy to have the youth involved in worship.
- Resources Chairperson, Craig Lambie, reported that our 2018 budget deficit of $11,652 is the lowest deficit in four years. We have been working to control expenses, but our income, down 10%, did not keep pace with expenses. As of this meeting, Craig reported that 84 pledge units supported the Stewardship Campaign with $198,000 toward the 2019 budget.
- PPPC is hosting three families (14 people total) in the Interfaith Hospitality Program the week of January 20th. Call Dorothy Tolley (732-892-9306) if you can volunteer to spend some time making food, hosting dinner, or sleeping overnight in the Annex with these wonderful friends. Dorothy mentioned that monetary donations are also being accepted to cover hosting expenses such as food items, personal products, toiletries and diapers. Your generous support has helped this local mission in the past and would be greatly welcomed now!
- One hearing device will replace those that no longer function correctly. In addition, another device will be purchased in the near future for those who have auditory challenges.
- Township bulk pickup of trash is scheduled for January 30, 2019, so all items to be discarded should be out on the curb by the evening before, Tuesday, January 29th.
