Congratulations to the class of 2018 graduates
Involvement from residents and students in Global One Health activities has been a cornerstone of GOHi's model from its inception as a taskforce in 2013.

The following individuals have demonstrated tremendous dedication and support to highly interdisciplinary global work: Maria Belu (veterinary public health resident), Alexandra Medley (DVM professional student, rabies), Ross Coniglio (veterinary public health resident), Sarah Waibel (DVM professional student, bovine tuberculosis) and Elshafa Ahmed (post-doctoral researcher, cancer). GOHi offers congratulations to these students and all Ohio State 2018 graduates on their accomplishments and wishes them success in future professional endeavors.
"Through GOHi I have spent two summers working in Ethiopia on a variety of projects including canine rabies and a bovine tuberculosis, brucellosis and mastitis project. I have presented research at the ICOPHAI conferences in Thailand and Qatar."
Sarah Waibel, DVM
"It has been a pleasure to work with GOHi. The team has assisted with hosting our OIE partners from Africa as well as facilitating connections with our U.S. Embassy outreach programs. One Health projects sustainably developed have a tremendous impact for all."

Coca-Cola Critical Difference for Women, Gender and Gender Equity Grant awarded to GOHi colleagues
Drs. Shu-Hua Wang (Ohio State), Belay Tessema and Agumas Shibabaw (University of Gondar) are the recipients of the Coca-Cola Critical Difference for Women Grant, which will fund tuberculosis (TB) studies in women and children in Gondar, Ethiopia.

The one-year project, "Improving diagnosis of tuberculosis in pregnant and lactating women in Gondar, Northern Ethiopia" begins on July 1. Globally, TB is a significant human pathogen and the top infectious disease killer. Fatality rates are higher in women than men.

This difference might indicate gender inequity due to barriers to healthcare access, socio-economic disparities or cultural stigmatization especially in developing countries. Even though TB is associated with increased mortality during pregnancy and postpartum, the prevalence of other associated risk factors are not well known.

The goal of this project is to improve screening and diagnosis of TB in pregnant and lactating women and to improve knowledge of TB associated risk factors in Ethiopia.
