Greetings!

Happy April!  Our first ever Health Equity Cohort is underway, and off to a great start.  Due to popular demand of the cohort, we've decided to hold a public version of the first training, Deconstructing Structural Racism: Examining History and Systems to Make Change.  Read on for more information!

We have a great Spring training schedule planned out, so if you haven't already, make sure to check out our list of upcoming trainings.  We hope to see you there!

Thanks to generous funding from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, our trainings are always free.

UPCOMING TRAININGS
Tuesday, April 30th, 2019
Trainers: Mo Barbosa (HRiA) and Lori Lobenstine (Design Studio for Social Intervention)
9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Worcester, MA

Topics: Overview of the history of race-based inequities and the systems that perpetuate them, and tools for addressing inequities in the community.

Description: To understand why health disparities exist today, we need to acknowledge and examine the history and systems in place that have created and perpetuated cumulative, persistent, race-based inequities. This training will provide a broad, historical context of current health disparities from housing policy and unfair mortgage lending to incarceration rates, and poorly resourced schools and its connection to structural racism. Participants will also have an opportunity to build skills and a common language to address inequities in their communities and organizations. This training will also discuss how to recognize the privilege that privileged identities hold and use that understanding to empower others and make connections across difference.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
  • Define structural racism and the systems that perpetuate it.
  • Identify strategies for collaborative work when working across differences.
