Puppets, Painting and Singing Out for the Poor People's Campaign

The Squallis Puppeteers group is hosting the creation of two local revolutionary shero puppets, Mattie Jones and Anne Braden. These puppets will be used for the Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, 40 days of non violent direct action and beyond! Come help in the creation of the puppets as well as signs and banners for the 40 days of action. We'll also learn some songs of the PPC!

Engaged Compassion Class with Cory Lockhart

This is a great class for parents and educators!
Compassion is a state of being and it is also the practice of acting in the world for the greater good. This five-week course focuses on building skills, expanding perspectives, developing vision, and exploring spiritual practices that are critical in fully acknowledging, directly confronting, and actively engaging in the "gritty realities of 21st century life." The course aims to shed light on some of today's realities, to offer hope through stories and insights of spiritual leaders, scholars, and activists who have integrated compassion into difficult contexts, and to cultivate within you actions you can take to integrate compassion into the gritty realities that call you to attention. Learn how you can engage on a local level and explore ways you can contribute in creating more just communities. This course will be highly interactive with small group dialogue, partner-sharing, and experiential activities.

Join the ACLU of Kentucky at 21c Museum Hotel Louisville for an evening of exploring civil liberties through the eyes of youth. Young leaders from the community will share their personal journey of political power through spoken word and storytelling. Come and learn how youth are Speaking Up in Louisville.
We encourage you to arrive early or stay after the program to view the newest exhibition at 21c Louisville, "Dress Up, Speak Up: Costume and Confrontation." Addressing how discrimination and injustice have shaped both identity and its artistic representation, the artists featured in Dress Up, Speak Up reimagine, restage, and re-perform iconographic imagery from Renaissance painting to present-day media to expose gaps in both art and history, and to confront the legacy of embedded experience.

Co-editor Dr. Alice Jones, professor of geosciences at Eastern Kentucky University, will discuss the new title,
Water in Kentucky: Natural History, Communities, and Conservation. Home to sprawling Appalachian forests, rolling prairies, and the longest cave system in the world, Kentucky is among the most ecologically diverse states in the nation. Lakes, rivers, and springs have shaped and nourished life in the Commonwealth for centuries, and water has played a pivotal role in determining Kentucky's physical, cultural, and economic landscapes. The management and preservation of this precious natural resource remain a priority for the state's government and citizens.
In this generously illustrated book, experts from a variety of fields explain how water has defined regions across the Commonwealth. Together, they illuminate the ways in which this resource has affected the lives of Kentuckians since the state's settlement, exploring the complex relationship among humans, landscapes, and waterways. They examine topics such as water quality, erosion and sediment control, and emerging water management approaches. Climate Civil Disobedience - Actions of Conscience
If a crime is committed in order to prevent a greater crime, is it forgivable? Is it, in fact, necessary?
The Reluctant Radical follows activist Ken Ward as he confronts his fears and puts himself in the direct path of the fossil fuel industry to combat climate change.
The Reluctant Radical is an intimate portrait of climate activist Ken Ward. Ken breaks the law as a last resort and with great trepidation, to fulfill what he sees as his personal obligation to future generations. The film follows Ken through a series of civil disobedience direct actions, culminating with his participation in the coordinated action that shut down all the U.S. tar sands oil pipelines on October 11, 2016. Facing 20 years in prison for his actions, the film reveals both the personal costs and also the fulfillment that comes from following one's moral calling. The film will be followed by a short discussion.

This workshop - using body, nature-based, and experiential exercises - will guide participants through a process of uniting the conscious and unconscious minds so that their original unique promise might be fulfilled.
