From the desk of our
S.T.E.A.M. Lab
Inspired by the upcoming holiday of Tu B'Shvat, we focused our STEAM activities around trees. We learned about their life cycle, what they give us, and how to take care of them. Then we turned our used spoons and forks into art. Instead of throwing them away, the kids used them to make a tree. During our second class, we learned about recycling paper. We used our paper trash to make paper pots for planting seeds on Tu B'Shvat.

Stone Soup
The Kindergarten students in Mrs. B.'s class enjoyed a unit on the story "Stone Soup." They read 3 versions of the story, compared and contrasted all 3, and did a writing activity about the characters in the story. The children brought in vegetables from home, and they peeled and cut them. They used stones as well as the vegetables, and made a graph showing their guesses as to what would happen to the stones while the soup was cooking. Finally, they enjoyed eating the delicious soup, some of them even eating 3 bowls! After eating the soup, they found the 3 stones intact at the bottom of the pot, and discovered that heat does not change the state of rocks. The big lesson of the unit was learning to share with others.
