Here's what's new on the Martin County 4-H website this month!
Animal IDs due May 15

Animal ID information has been mailed to families. All breeding beef, dairy, dog, dairy goats, meat goats, horse, lama, poultry, rabbit, sheep and swine animal projects need to be identified by May 15


2019 Animal Lease information is available.  New forms this year!

The Minnesota 4-H program allows the leasing of animal science projects to encourage a greater number of members to have the opportunity to experience the showing of livestock projects. The 4-H member will gain hands-on experience in managing and showing the 4-H animal science projects through the cooperation and mentorship of local animal owners.  

Martin County 4-H Broiler Derby back this year!

Martin County 4-H Broiler Derby's goal is to provide a learning opportunity and increase poultry knowledge.

Martin County Born and Raised 4-H market swine class

Martin County Born & Raised swine MUST be declared as such on the 4-H affidavit, which was included in the Animal ID-ing mailing, and a veterinarian familiar with the pigflow must sign the affidavit confirming their qualifications PRIOR to County Fair Check-In. Affidavit MUST be turned into the 4-H Office.

CLASS of 2019: Up to Four $500 Martin County Scholarships will be awarded. Due date May 10.

Junior Ambassadors Day Camp - 4-H Leadership and Team Building

Join our Martin County 4-H Ambassadors for a fun morning of leadership and team-building skill-development to become a JUNIOR AMBASSADOR for a day! There will also be GAMES & RECREATION as well as SNACKS!

The Art of Printmaking 4-H Crafts & Fine Arts workshop

Do you have an interest in learning more about art and how you can prepare an art project for judging at the County Fair? If so, join us for a night of messy painting fun as we explore the world of printmaking!  April 18th from 5:30-7 pm. For grades 3 and up. Pre-register by April 1.



More 4-H news this month
4-H Residential Camp is for youth who have just completed grades 3-6 and is held at Shetek Lutheran Ministries Camp on Lake Shetek. 
 
Martin County 4-H has a variety of summer programming available for ALL youth! 4-H members and non-members are invited to join in on the fun! All of our programs are either FREE or offered at a considerably low rate with scholarships available! Spread the word!

Online LQA&E training for active 4-H members. Only good for One (1) year/fair season. 
 
The next Horse PDC Meeting will be on Tuesday, April 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Martin County Courthouse. 
 
Performing Arts Club members will attend a special meeting on Sunday, April 7 at the Martin County Resource Center. 
 
Martin County 4-H Club Leaders Circle brings our current Club Leaders together with the 4-H Program Coordinator to look at upcoming 4-H deadlines and updates; openly discuss with other Club Leaders to share ideas and find solutions; and to try out potential club activities or lessons. This is an informal time of sharing and learning together. Pizza is provided. Please Note: This is an open invitation and not a requirement for Club Leaders to attend. 
 
Mark your calendars! The Livestock/Auction Committee spring meeting will take place at the Courthouse on Thursday, May 16 at 5:15 pm! 
 
Council and Federation Meeting is April 22 at the Martin County Courthouse 
 
REMINDER-4-H Members must attend at least THREE MEETINGS. 
 
The Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Stock Show will take place in September. 4-H Office Staff will no longer be working with the DNA sample or the verification process. 4-H families interested in participating will work directly with Aksarben.
 
4-H Presentation Day will be taking place on Saturday, July 13 at the Fairmont Opera House. 
 
4-H State Director Jennifer Skuza offers tips for building critical interpersonal skills into club meetings and other 4-H learning experiences. There are ideas you could use today!
 
Team registrations are now open for the 2019 Minnesota 4-H Engineering Design Challenge! The challenge is designed for youth in grades 3 - 12 and provides an opportunity for youth to problem solve while using their imaginations, working with others and having a fun experience!
 
Register by May 10 for the state leadership conference, Youth Exploring Leadership and Learning Out loud! (YELLO!). This annual event will take place June 11-14 in St. Paul and is open to youth participants in grades 6+.
 
Youth currently in grades 10-12 are invited to apply for the 2019-2020 Minnesota 4-H State Ambassador team! Applications are due May 17.
 
Throughout the month of April, 4-H'ers across the country will be engaged in service as part of the True Leaders in Service challenge! The Minnesota 4-H State Ambassadors challenge all Minnesota 4-H'ers to join this national movement!
 
During National Volunteer Week, April 7-13, we recognize and thank the hard-working volunteers who support youth in developing their passion and key life skills.
 
From now through April 30, 4-H and JOANN fabrics have an in-store partnership. There are three ways to join in on the fun.

Minnesota 4-H allows the leasing of animal science projects to ensure that all members have the opportunity to experience the showing of livestock projects. Animal science lease information has been updated for 2019 and is available on our website.
 
Youth have the opportunity to complete general exhibits that are ready for the county fair during Project Day Spotlight! Project Day Spotlight is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Windom MS/HS. Register early as some sessions have caps!
 
 A 4-H Crop Scouting event will be held on Monday, July 29, 2019 in rural Benson for youth in grades 7-12
 
Check out all of the exciting things that have been happening and are coming up with the 4-H Agronomy Program!
 
Join us at the Murray County Fairgrounds on April 27th for a Rabbit Fun Show.  Registration begins at 10 am. Workshops, showmanship classes and show classes and contests.
